What’s your favorite cartoon?

When I was a kid, Saturday mornings meant cartoons. In our house it also meant piano lessons and watching those cartoons silently because the TV and the piano were in the same room, only a few feet apart.

I loved watching “Bugs Bunny” but didn’t get to hear it very often; especially, the Classical music. Growing up in a Classical household, it was cool to be allowed to watch a cartoon with the one form of music Dad allowed in the house.

I have always loved the skit to the music from the “Barber of Seville” where Bugs is the barber and he is working on Elmer Fudd’s bald head, beating on Elmer’s head with his ears and then a garden grows on Elmer’s head instead of hair! All the while the music from “Barber of Seville” is playing.

I remember one afternoon at my Dad’s house me, my Dad, and my son were all sitting in front of the TV laughing our heads off at Bugs Bunny cartoons.

But even better than Bugs Bunny, Elmer Fudd, the Road Runner, and Wiley Coyote was “The Pink Panther” because there was no audio. There was some music to accompany the cartoons but no talking; so no need to worry about missing any dialogue.

The ant and the aardvark were pretty cool too.
