The 2023 Major League Baseball season is over with the Texas Rangers taking home the World Series Trophy.  And now that the season is over, The Baseball Writers of America and the MLB have handed out the post season awards including Gold Glove, Silver Slugger, Cy Young, Manager and Rookie of the Year Awards.

This year a number of players have earned awards for the first time; and a number of them received unanimous votes in the process.

The winners of the Most Valuable Player Awards this year were for the first time in the award’s history, both winners were selected by unanimous votes.

For the second time in three years, MLB’s only two way player Shohei Ohtani brings home the MVP Award in the American League.

In the National League Atlanta Braves outfielder Ronald Acuna Jr achieved a feat never before seen in baseball – 41 home runs and 73 stolen bases!  Acuna was unanimously voted as the MVP for the National League.

The 2023 Cy Young Award winners went to a first time winner with Gerrit Cole of the New York Yankees in a unanimous vote after coming in second place over the past two years.

Joining Roger Clemens, Randy Johnson, Pedro Martinez, Gaylord Perry, Roy Halladay and Max Scherzer; Blake Snell now has a Cy Young Award in both leagues.  He has earned one with the Tampa Bay Rays and has earned a Cy Young with the San Diego Padres.

While the 2023 Managers of the Year did not make it to the World Series, both managers turned their teams around.  Miami Marlin’s manager Skip Schumaker helped lead the Marlins to their first winning season since 2009 and a trip to the playoffs to win the National League Manager of the Year Award.  In the American League, Brandon Hyde not only helped to lead his Baltimore Orioles to its first winning season since 2016, the Orioles went on to make it in the playoffs in the American League.

The 2023 Rookie of the Year winners both earned unanimous votes to achieve the honour – Gunnar Henderson of the Baltimore Orioles and Corbin Carroll of the Arizona Diamondbacks.
