Prior to the Craftsman Truck Series race at the. Milwaukee Mile NASCAR confiscated one of the tires on the ThorSport number 98 truck driven by Ty Majeski. Majeski’s crew chief was ejected from the track, he hadto start the race from the back of the field, and had to serve a pass through (driving down pit road at pit road speed) penalty once the race began.
On Tuesday NASCAR issued a further penalty to the 98 team for violating sections 14.16.1 and parts A and C of the NASCAR rule book. The sections deal with wheels, tires, and the wheel assembly; especially in relation to the tire stem.
As a result of the infractions, NASCAR issued a level L2 penalty with crew chief Joe Shear Jr being fined $25,000 and has been suspended for the next four races. Which means, he will not be allowed to return until Homestead-Miami Speedway for the final two races of the season.
Also, Ty Majeski and ThorSport have each been docked 75 points each plus five playoff points. Majeski earned five playoff points for winning the first race of the playoffs at Indianapolis Raceway Park and secured himself a spot in the next round of the playoffs. While he maintains the win, he loses the points. The penalty drops Majeski to 10th place in the standings with 2,033 points.
Despite having to start the race from the back of the field, Majeski drover the truck through the field to a seventh place finish.
