Last year, Kurt Busch’s season was cut short when he suffered a severe concussion after a race crash at Pocono Raceway.  On August 26 Bush made it official that he is retiring from driving in NASCAR.  Busch had previously announced last fall that he would be retiring from full time driving.

 

Busch earned his final win at Kansas and just a few weeks later was making a run for the pole when he crashed.   Us h noted in his speech in Las Vegas that the end of his racing career was a Hollywood ending: adding, “I’m happy with it,”

 

With 34 career race wins Kurt Busch was the first driver to win a Cup Series championship under the current playoff configuration.  Along with younger brother Kyle, the Bush brothers hold the record for the most combined wins  y brothers in the NASCAR Cup Series.

 

Busch has stayed on at 23XI to work with current drivers Bubba Wallace and Tyler Reddick and in a consulting role for the company.

 

Continuing to work on his recovery, Busch notes thar some days are rougher than others and even being “cramped up” in a racing simulator feels different.

 

Kurt Busch has been named as one of the 75 greatest drivers in NASCAR as a part of the sport’s 75th anniversary and is sure to be a part of the NASCAR Hall of Fame in the years to come.  He was also the last driver to “do the double” of running in the Indianapolis 500 and. Coca Cola 600 in the same day – a feat Kyle Larson is hoping to achieve next year.

 

Over the course of his career Busch has driven for several car owners including Jack Roush, Roger Penske, Stewart-Haas, and 23XI.
