“The Lion King” has been roaring along Broadway for over 25 years. Now the longest running show on The Great White Way, the Sir Elton John musical continues to top the list of box office draws. Again this week the musical brought in over $2 million.
For the past six weeks, the play “Good Night, Oscar” has increased its take at the box office and this week the show joined the million dollar club. The show has only one more week in its limited run.
“Hamilton”, “Wicked”, “MJ the Musical”, and “Aladdin” were also big box office draws this past week. A total of 12 of the 26 productions currently running were members of the $1 million club this pas week.
The box office draw and the number of theatergoers last week were down as the season draws to a close but is expected to increase in the coming weeks as the new theater season is set to begin next month.
Twelve of the 26 show also saw a capacity of at least 90 percent with “Hamilton” topping the list with a 100 percent capacity crowd.
