Last week Noah Gragson was suspended after liking a questionable meme on social media that was related to George Floyd. Over the past few days there has been a great deal of speculation on Gragson’s future with reports of team owners Legacy Motor Club firing the first year driver. LMC issued a statement that said Gragson’s actions “do not represent the values of our team.”
In fact, it is just the opposite…Gragson himself has asked for LMC to be release.
After LMC suspended Gragson, NASCAR also suspended the driver for violations of the NASCAR rule book code of conduct.
Gragson issued a statement saying, “I have asked Legacy Motor Club to release me from my contract so that I can take time to work through the NASCAR reinstatement process. I love racing, and I am looking forward to a second chance to compete for wins at the highest level of NASCAR — and most importantly, make my family, my team and the fans proud of me once again.”
Last Sunday at the race on the two mile track at Michigan International Speedway, Josh Berry filled in for Gragson. Berry and Gragson were teammates at JR Motorsports last season and Berry has been named as the new driver of the number four car next season when Kevin Harvick retires.
With the next two races being run on a road course, two time 24 Hours of Le Mans winner Mike Rockenfeller will be driving the number 42 car for Legacy Motor Club.
LMC has not announced any future plans for drivers of the number 42 car for the remainder of the 2023 season or the 2024 season.
