This past weekend at New Hampshire Motor Speedway Martin Truex Jr, dominated the race which is something he has done several times before, but this was the first time he dominated the race and went on to claim the giant lobster in victory.
Truex is not the only driver in NASCAR to claim such a feat of leading and dominating races. Jeff Burton actually led every single lap in a race at New Hampshire.
While, Martin Truex Jr donated the race, another driver added to his legacy when he led a few laps to reach the 16,000 laps led mark. Retiring at the end of the season, Kevin Harvick can add another milestone to his legacy after reaching 16,000 laps led in his career.
In it’s 75 year history there has only been 20 drivers in NASCAR that can claim that they have led 10,000 laps during their careers. Including Kevin Harvick, there are only four current drivers on the list.
Laps led leaders:
Kurt Busch – 10,292
Bill Elliott – 11,414
Matt Kenseth – 11,769
Martin Truex Jr – 12,036
Junior Johnson – 12, 749
Tony Stewart – 12, 815
Mark Martin – 12,878
Bobby Isaac – 12,944
Denny Hamlin – 13,690
Kevin Harvick – 16,009
Jimmie Johnson – 18,941
Kyle Busch – 19,137
Rusty Wallace – 19,995
Darrell Waltrip – 23,135
Jeff Gordon – 24,936
David Pearson – 25,023
Dale Earnhardt Sr – 25,713
Bobby Allison – 27,106
Cale Yarborough – 31,696
Richard Petty – 51,061
With 200 race wins, it is no surprise that Richard Petty tops the list and it is a pretty good bet that no one will ever catch him to break that record.
