Once again this past weekend weather played a role in the race for the Cup Series.  As a result of torrential rains, flooding, high winds, and a tornado warning the Sunday race became a Monday race at New Hampshire Motor Speedway.

Martin Truex Jr earned his third win of the season after dominating the race where he swept the stages and led all but about two dozen laps.  That win put Truex back in front of the point and playoff standings.

After wrecking his car for the third time over the weekend, Kyle Busch was the first car out of the race and dropped from third to fifth in the point standings but remains in third place in the playoff standings with his three wins this season.  That was Busch’s fourth DNF of the season.

Only six races remain for the Cup Series in the regular season and the playoff picture is still very murky around the bubble with Bubba Wallace, Michel McDowell, and Daniel Suarez separated by just three points.

The chances for Hendrick Motorsports drivers Alex Bowman and Chase Elliott to make it in the playoffs on points is quickly  dwindling with their only hope of making it in the top 16 will be a win.  Currently Bowman is 42 points below the cut line and Elliott is 60 points below the cut line.
