Before there was Animal and Phil Collins, there was Buddy Rich who was considered by many to be the greatest drummer ever.

Rich died in 1987 due to a brain tumour but his music has lived on and the album “Birdland” appeared in the 2014 movie “Whiplash”.

On July 21 Lightyear Entertainment, Lobitos Creek Ranch, Scabeba Entertainment, and the Buddy Rich Estate will be releasing a limited edition red vinyl of “Birdland”.  The original black vinyl release sold out multiple pressings.  The live album featured Rich along with his Killer Force Band.

In “Whiplash” Miles Teller (Rooster in Top Gun: Maverick) plays a young talented drummer who idolizes Buddy Rich has the album “Birdland” and introduced the music to a new generation of music fans.  Rich’s daughter Cathy was a consultant for “Whiplash”.

“Whiplash” went on to win an Academy Award.
