Not only did the annual Tony Awards gala pull off a successful presentation amidst the writers strike, they have helped the award winning shows set some new box office records.

 

Winner of Best Play, “Leopoldstadt” has rejoined the million dollar club for the first time in over a year and while the Best Musical winner “Kimberly Akimbo” has yet to join the club, the musical saw its best week yet at the box office with over $700,000 in ticket sales.  “The Sign in Sidney Brustein’s Window”, “Parade”, “Fat Ham”, “Prima Facie”, “Good Night Oscar”, and & Juliet” also saw box office records last week.

 

New productions “Once Upon a One More Time” and “Here Lies Love” are also holding their own, both topping $600,000 at the box office.

 

Sir Elton John’s “The Lion King” is the only show that topped $2 last week.

“Hamilton” and “Sweeney Todd” both topped the list with over 100 percent capacity with over half of the 32 shows currently running reaching at least 90 percent capacity in attendance.
