With all the penalties issued by NASCAR this season, the National Motorsports Appeals Panel has been busy hearing appeals of several of those penalties. The most recent of those appeals was heard June 14 over penalties issued May 18 and June 6 to crews in the Craftsman Truck Series over window net safety.
Young Motorsports appealed the penalty related to sections 10.5.1 and 14.2.3.3.B.C of the NASCAR rule book which states all window nets must meet the minimum safety standards and may not be used more than two years after their manufacture.
In the original penalty, NASCAR docked Young Motorsports 25 owner points, drivers Spencer Boyd and Nick Leitz 25 driver points, and crew chiefs Bradley Means, Joseph Lax and Andrew Abbott $5,000 each.
Noting that the parties involved did in fact violate the rules, the Appeals Panel upheld the original penalty; saying, “NASCAR showed the window net labels were visually and significantly different from the OEM new labels.”
Young Motorsports may make one final appeal to the National Motorsports Final Appeals Officer. The ruling of that Appeals Officer is final and the last opportunity for YMS to make an appeal.
