The second race of a triple header weekend, the Xfinity Series is at a stand alone event with some road course racing at Portland International Raceway for the Pacific Office Automation 147.

Trevor Bayne and Jamie McMurray join Adam Alexander in the broadcast booth for today’s race.

With the Xfinity Series race running until nearly midnight on Monday, the Xfinity teams were pressed for time getting the haulers loaded and over 3,000 miles across the country to Portland in time.  Tommy Joe Martins of Alpha Prime Racing took to social media to report on the harrowing events that made that long trip even longer with haulers breaking down and having to bring in backup trucks and haulers in order to get his cars to Portland.

Parker Kligerman led the drivers after the short practice session.

For road course qualifying, the drivers will be divided into two groups where they will have 15 minutes to make their fastest runs.  The top five drivers from each group will get 10 minutes to make their fastest run to set the pole.

Thirty-eight teams brought cars to Portland for 38 starting spots.  While there are no Cup Series drivers in the race this weekend, there are a few “road course ringers” in the race including IMSA driver Jordan Taylor, Dylan Lupton, Alex Labbe, and Leland Honeyman.

Parker Retzlaff gets off the track making his first qualifying run and took out the traffic cones.

Sammy Smith also gets off the track and into the grass.  The traffic cones are scattered all over the grass.

Last year the drivers ran the race in the rain; this year it is a bright sunny day.

Justin Allgaier and Jeremy Clements are the only drivers in the field who have won a  road course race in the Xfinity Series.

Sam Mayer will be starting the race from the back of the field after not being able to make a qualifying run due to his getting off the track and the cars needing some repairs.

Parker Kligerman scattered a few traffic cones during his qualifying run.

The red flag is out so that track workers can collect all the traffic cones all over the track and grass.  And the cones have been replaced.

Brandon Jones will also have to start the race form the back of the field after an on track incident required replacing part of the front splitter.

Stefan Parsons had a smoking car with an oil issue that resulted in some track clean up before qualifying and Parsons unable to make a qualifying run.

Cole Custer, Sheldon Creed, Justin Allgaier, Jordan Taylor, and Daniel Hemric will be moving on to round two of qualifying form Group A.

The Group B drivers moving on to round two are Chandler Smith, Austin Hill, John Hunter Nemechek, Josh Berry, and Myatt Snider.

With under three minutes of the 10 minute qualifying time, only half of the drivers have been on the track.  All of the drivers get out to make a qualifying run with winning the pole with a time of 74.111 seconds for his first career pole.
