The skies have cleared enough to let the Cup Series drivers take to the track for some practice and make qualifying runs for the Wurth 400 at Dover Motor Speedway on the Monster Mile.

And Miles the Monster has already claimed his first victims of the weekend when Austin Dillon got around and into the wall.  Daniel Suarez also got turned around but kept it off the wall.

In practice several drivers were having handling problems during practice.

Rusty Wallace joins Mike Joy and Clint Bowyer in the FOX broadcast booth for this weekend.

Ryan Preece had his night rudely interrupted when the fire alarm went off at 1:30 in the morning and the visitors had to vacate the building.

After only 17 laps of practice, there is some major cording on Joey Logano’s tires.   And he isn’t alone; several teams are reporting cording issues with the tires.

Reports are that the track isn’t taking rubber and NASCAR has only allotted nine sets of tires for the race.  The track is acting like a cheese grater on the tires.  Concrete tracks do not take rubber under cool weather conditions.

Early in Group B practice, Erik Jones gets turned around in turn three but keeps it off the wall. 

Group B practices has been cut short due to rain.

In his final visit to Dover and the Monster Mile, Dover has named turn four “Harvick 4”.

Qualifying has been cancelled due to the rain and the field will be set according to NASCAR’s metric that includes last race finish, points, and lap speeds.

Despite some tight issues during practice, Talladega winner Kyle Busch will sit on the pole with Christopher Bell alongside on the front row.

After rains drenched Dover on Sunday, NASCAR moved the race to Monday and clearer skies.

Stage one of the race is 120 laps, stage two is 130 laps, and stage three lasts 150 laps for a total of 400 laps around the one mile concrete track.

NASCAR has called for a competition caution on lap 20 to give crews a chance to check on tire wear and make adjustments after the rains have washed all of the rubber off the track.

Kyle Busch brings the field down for the green flag start of the race from the outside lane and jumps out in front for the lead.

Lap two, Kyle Busch leads the race with Christopher Bell in second, Brad Keselowski, Ryan Blaney, and Chase Briscoe round out the top five.

Lap four Kyle Busch holds on to the lead with Christopher Bell in second as the drivers are doing a lot of moving back and forth as the faster cars work their way forward.

Lap seven, the second groove is already working its way in.

NASCAR has granted the teams an extra set of tires. There are nine sets of tires in the pits.

Lap nine, Kyle Busch leads the race but Denny Hamlin is running some of the fastest laps on the track.

Crews were concerned about the rubber being laid down on the track, but it has already started to show up.

Lap 12, Kyle Busch has a half second lead on Christopher Bell; Brad Keselowski, Ryan Blaney, and William Byron rounds out the top five.

Lap 16, Kyle Busch has led every lap so far with Christopher Bell a half second back.

Lap 20, the top five are Kyle Busch, Christopher Bell, Ryan Blaney, Brad Keselowski, and William Byron.

Lap 21, NASCAR puts out the yellow flag for the competition caution.

Drivers come down pit road for service with Kyle Busch winning the race off of pit road from pit box number one.  Josh Berry and William Byron make contact coming off of the narrow pit road.

William Byron reports that the car is doing everything he wants it to do.

Kye Busch told his crew that he likes the car.

Christopher Bell had trouble on his pit stop and dropped from second to 14th.

Kyle Busch was caught speeding coming on to pit road.  He will have to restart the race from the back of the field.

Todd Gilliland and Josh Berry took only two tires on their pit stops.

Brad Keselowski brings the field down for the green flag restart on lap 28 from the outside but William Byron from the inside lane jumps out in front for the lead.

Noah Gragson brings out the second caution flag when he gets loose and hits the wall on lap 28.

William Byron brings the field down for the green flag restart in the outside lane on lap 33.  Byron jumps out in front for the lead with Denny Hmlin in second; Brad Keselowski, Ryan Blaney, and Chris Buescher rounding out the top five.

Daniel Suarez brings out the caution flag when he gets loose and into the wall.  This week, the paint scheme on Suarez’ car is a promotion for boss Pitbull’s upcoming album titled “Trackhouse”.  Pitbull and Miles the Monster got a very close and intimate introduction.  BJ McLeod was also involved in the wreck.

As the drivers stacked up behind Suarez, Kyle Busch got into Ty Dillon who got loose and slammed into the wall.  There is also some damage to Kyle Busch’s car.

Three caution flags in the first 36 laps is the most at Dover since 1984.

William Byron brings the field down for the green flag restart with Denny Hamlin alongside on lap 42.  Byron jumps out in front form the outside lane with Hamlin taking second; Ryan Blaney, Brad Keselowski, and Ross Chastain round out the top five.

Lap 44, William Byron has the elad with Denny Hamlin in second; Ryan Blaney, Ross Chastain, and Martin Truex Jr round out the top five.

Lap 47, William Byron holds on to the lead with Denny Hamlin in second; Ryan Blaney, Ross Chastain, and Martin Truex Jr round out the top five.

Martin Truex Jr has won at Dover three times and is hoping to make it a Truex sweep with number four after his brother Ryan won the Xfinity race on Saturday.  Truex is currently on a 54 race losing streak.

Lap 51 William Byron has pulled out to a half second lead on Denny Hamlin.

Noah Gragson has failed to meet minimum speed after his crash and is out of the race.

Lap 54, after his speeding penalty and involvement in the Ty Dillon crash, Kyle Busch has moved up to 25th.

Lap 55, William Byron has a lead of over half a second on Denny Hamlin; Ryan Blaney, Ross Chastain, and Martin Truex Jr round out the top five.

Daniel Suarez said that he wasn’t loose, it was just a sudden move when he got into the wall.  Suarez noted that he may have had a tire going down because it happened so suddenly.

Lap 66, William Byron has increased his lead to over a second on Denny Hamlin; Ryan Blaney, Ross Chastain, and Brad Keselowski round out the top five.

Lap 71, Kyle Busch has entered the top 20.

The drivers can run 85 to 90 laps on a single load of fuel and will have to make a pit stop in all three of the stages.

Lap 77, William Byron’s lead is down to under a second on Denny Hamlin; Ryan Blaney, Ross Chastain, and Kyle Larson round out the top five.

Lap 79, leader William Byron is encountering slower traffic.

The sun has appeared and Kyle Larson is running some of the fastest times on the track.

Lap 81, the caution flag comes out after Ross Chastain makes contact with Brennan Poole sending Poole into the outside wall; unable to slow down or stop, Kyle Larson gets into Poole.  Larson has some significant damage to his car.  Poole is out of the race.

Kyle Busch is now in 15th.

After staying out on the track, Kyle Busch brings the field down for the green flag restart on lap 90 but it is Ross Chastain who initially gets out in front before William Byron passes Chastain to retake the lead.

Lap 92, William Byron leads the reace with Ross Chastain in second; Denny Hamlin, Brad Keselowski, and Ryan Blaney round out the top five.  Kyle Busch is in sixth place.

Lap 96, William Byron has a half second lead on Ross Chastain; Denny Hamlin, Brad Keselowski, and Ryan Blaney round out the top five.

Lap 100, Kyle Busch has fallen to ninth place on old tires.

Lap 101, William Byron has a lead of over a second on Denny Hamlin; Ross Chastain, Brad Keselowski, and Ryan Blaney round out the top five.

Lap 105, Kyle Busch has dropped to 15th – his spot before the caution flag.

Lap 110, William Byron’s lead is down to under half a second on Denny Hamlin; Ross Chastain, Brad Keselowski, and Ryan Blaney round out the top five.

Kyle Busch has dropped out of the top 20.

Lap 115, William Byron has dominated the race since taking the lead and has a near half second lead on Denny Hamlin.

Now in 25th, Kyle Busch reports that his right rear tire feels like it is coming apart.

Lap 119, Kyle Busch has just been lapped.

Drivers come down pit road for service with William Byron winning the race off of pit road.  Denny Hamlin had another slow pit stop.

Brad Keselowski hit one of his own tires and sent it spinning; the tire rolled behind the wall.  He has been charged with an uncontrolled tire and will have to restart the race from the back of the field.

Martin Truex Jr had a slow pit stop when the jackman couldn’t get the car up.

William Byron brings the field down for the green flag start of stage two from the outside lane on lap 130 with Ryan Blaney alongside.  Byron jumps out in front for the lead.

Kyle Larson had taken his car to the garage for a mechanical issues and is back on the track 28 laps down.

The top five are William Byron, Ryan Blaney, Ross Chastain, Christopher Bell, and Denny Hamlin.

Lap 135,William Byron has a lead of nearly a second on Ryan Blaney; Ross Chastain, Christopher Bell, and Denny Hamlin round out the top five.

There are 25 cars on the lead lap with Kyle Busch the first car one lap down.

Lap 142, William Byron has a one second lead on Ryan Blaney; Ross Chastain, Christopher Bell, and Denny Hamlin round out the top five.

Sitting in for Alex Bowman, Josh Berry is just outside the top 10 in eleventh.  Berry is taking over for Bowman after he fractured a vertebrae in a race last week.

Lap 154, William Byron has led 122 laps so far; he has a  lead of over a second on Ryan Blaney with Ross Chastain, Denny Hamlin, and Kevin Harvick rounding out the top five.

Lap 159, William Byron is dominating the race and has a lead of over a second on Ryan Blaney.

Lap 162, Denny Hamlin passes Christopher Bell for fourth.

Lap 166, William Byron’s lead is down to under a second on Ryan Blaney; Ross Chastain, Denny Hamlin, and Christopher Bell round out the top five.

Joey Logano reports a bad handling car, he is not one laps down.

Ross Chastain passes Ryan Blaney for second.

Lap 179, William Byron has a lead of over half a second on Ross Chastain; Ryan Blaney, Denny Hamlin, and Kevin Harvick round out the top five.

Christopher Bell reports no rear grip and is falling through the field.  Lap 181, he is in ninth place.

Lap 182, there are only 19 cars on the lead lap.

Mired back in 26th, Kyle Busch has not advanced since the start of stage two.

Lap 184, Ross Chastain is slowly closing the gap on lead William Byron.  Byron’s lead is down to just over half a second.

Lap 188, Joey Logano and Christopher Bell are the first drivers to make their green flag pit stops.

Chase Briscoe slaps the wall and has to come down pit road.

Lap 191, William Byron’s lead is now under half a second on Ross Chastain.

More drivers come down pit road as the cycle continues.

Lap 194, Ross Chastain has caught William Byron and passes Byron on the outside to take the lead.  After getting passed by Ross Chastain, Byron makes his pit stop.

Lap 195, leader Ross Chastain makes his green flag pit stop.  Josh Berry is the new leader.

Josh Berry brings the number nine car down pit road and gives the lead over to Brad Keselowski.

Brad Keselowski makes his green flag pit stop on lap 200 and gives the lead over to Ross Chastain.

Halfway, Ross Chastain has a near two second lead on William Byron; Austin Dillon, Ryan Blaney, and Kyle Busch round out the top five.  Dillon and Busch have yet to make their pit stops.

Lap 210, Ross Chastain has a quarter of a second lead on William Byron.

Joey Logano and Christopher Bell has some severe cording on their tires when they came down pit road.

Lap 215, the top five are Ross Chastain, William Byron, Ryan Blaney, Kevin Harvick, and Denny Hamlin.  There are 17 cars on the lead lap.

Lap 221, Ross Chastain has a narrow lead on William Byron, Ryan Blaney, Kevin Harvick, and Denny Hamlin round out the top five.

Lap 222, Ros Chastain has a lead of over a second on William Byron, Ryan Blaney, Kevin Harvick, and Denny Hamlin round out the top five with 16 cars on the lead lap.

Ross Chastain has passes Erik Jones to put him a lap down; there are now 15 cars on the lead lap.

Lap 243, Ross Chastain continues to lead the race with a lead of over a second on William Byron; Ryan Blaney, Denny Hamlin, and Kevin Harvick round out the top five.

Joey Logano makes an unscheduled trip down pit road.

Lap 245, Martin Truex Jr is now in the top five.

A very local few rain drops fell but the sun had returned.

Kevin Harvick gets slow on the track and falls to 15th.

Kevin Harvick had a corded tire when he fell through the field during the last lap of stage two.  He is now one lap down in 15th.

Martin Truex Jr has passed Bubba Wallace to put hima lap down; leaving just 12 cars on the lead lap.

The right front tire was coming apart as Bubba Wallace came down pit road for his green flag pit stop.

Fifty to go, Martin Truex Jr has a lead of over half a second on Ross Chastain; Ryan Blaney, Ty Gibbs, and Denny Hamlin round out the top five.

Chase Elliott has gone one lap down in twelfth place.  Josh Berry is the last car on the lead lap in eleventh.

Lap 357, Ross Chastain has closed up on leader Martin Truex Jr and is now challenging for the lead.

Ty Gibbs crew reports that he is short on fuel – seven laps.  Gibbs pitted with 73 laps remaining in the race – well within the fuel window.  The crew did not get the fuel tank full.

With 36 laps to go, Ross Chastain continues to challenge Martin Truex Jr for the lead; Ryan Blaney, Denny Hamlin, and Christopher Bell round out the top five.

With 21 laps to go, Martin Truex Jr has put two lapped cars between himself and second place driver Ross Chastain to increase the lead to a second and a half.

With 16 laps to go, Ross Chastain has gotten around the traffic between him and leader Martin Truex Jr; the lead is down to less than half a second.

Joey Logano spins out and hits the wall and brings out the caution flag with 13 laps to go.  There are only eight drivers on the lead lap.
