The annual Tony Awards are quickly approaching. As a part of the process before the nominations can be announced, the Admin Committee must rule on the various productions as to whether or not they qualify to be nominated to win an award.
The Tony Awards Admin Committee met for the final time on April 28 before the announcement of the nominees will be presented on May 2.
This year the Tony Awards will be held on June 11 at the United Palace Theatre in New York City with Ariana DeBose hosting the gala event.
While the new musical “New York, New York” features music by John Kander and Fred Ebb along with new compositions by John Kander and Lin-Manuel Miranda; it will not be eligible for Best Score. However, Colton Ryan and Anna Uzele are eligible for Best Performance in a Leading Role in a Musical.
After rewriting the libretto for the “Camelot” revival, Aaron Sorkin is eligible to be nominated for Best Book of a Musical.
“Life of Pi” actor Hiran Abeysekera is eligible for Best Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role. And Tim Hatley and Andrej Goulding are eligible for Best Scenic Design of a Play. Hatley, Nick Barnes, and Finn Caldwell are eligible for Best Costume Design of a Play.
Caroline Innerbichler is eligible as Best Performance by an Actress in a Leading Role in “Shucked”.
Marcel Spears is eligible for Best Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role in a Paly for “Fat Ham”.
Andre Burna and Phillipa Soo are both eligible for Best Performance in a Leading Role in the revival of “Camelot”. Michael Yeargan and 59 Productions are eligible for Best Scenic Design of a Musical.
Yeargan and 59 Productions are also eligible for Best Scenic Design for “Pictures from Home”.
Riccardo Hernandez and David Benali are eligible for Best Scenic Design of a Play for “The Thanksgiving Play”.
Laura Linney and Jessical Hecht are eligible for Best Performance in a Leading Role for “Summer, 1976”. John Lee Beatty and Hana S. Kim are eligible for Best Scenic Design of a Play.
