On March 28, the National Motorsports Appeals Panel amended the penalty assessed by NASCAR to Hendrick Motorsports after the competition committee confiscated the hood louvers of the four HMS cars. The louvers were taken after the practice session in Phoenix but were never used during the race.
NASCAR levied a four race suspension ban to the HMS crew chief, a $100,000 fine to each of the teams, docked 100 car owner and driver points, and 10 playoff points to the drivers.
After hearing from NASCAR officials and Hendrick Motorsports the Appeals Panel held up the fines issued NASCAR and the suspensions of the crew chiefs; however the fines, and points deductions have been restored to the number five car driven by Kyle Larson, the number 24 car driven by William Byron, and the number 48 car driven by Alex Bowman.
The number nine car driven by Chase Elliott was not a part of the driver point deductions since Elliott is out of the car due to his broken leg. The owner points deducted for the number nine car have been restored. Josh Berry was driving the car at Phoenix.
Team owner Rick Hendrick chose to go ahead with the crew chief suspensions despite appealing the ruling.
The reinstatement of points puts Larson, Byron, and Bowman back in the top 10 in the point standings. Alex Bowman is the new points leader with 226 points but William Byron leads in the playoff points with 2,022 points and two race wins.
The revised playoff standings are:

Joey Logano
Tyler Reddick
Ricky Stenhouse Jr
Kevin Harvick
Christopher Bell
Kyle Larson
Ryan Blaney
Austin Cindric
