It is the biggest night in Hollywood when the great and the good gather for the annual Academy Award presentation.
This year marks the 95th time the Film Academy will present the golden statues at the gala event; but for the first time in over 60 years, the celebrities will not be walking the red carpet, but a champagne coloured one that will also be covered to keep everyone dry.
Late night talk show host Jimmy Kimmel will host this year’s gala event…and promises no blood will be spilled. After parachuting on to the stage after being ejected from Maverick’s plane thanked the Oscars for inviting him. He noted that this year there are 16 first time nominees. He said that all of the top grossing movies this year were sequels.
Steven Spielberg is the first director to be nominated in six different decades.
At 91, John Williams is the oldest person to receive an Oscar nomination. He has been nominated 53 times; only Disney has more nominations.
Kimmel encouraged people to go see “Till” and “The Woman King” – both of which received no nominations this year.
The first award of the night was for Best Animated Feature Film which went to Guillermo del Toro for his version of “Pinocchio”.
The award for Best Supporting Actor went to Ke Huy Quan for his role in “Everything Everywhere All at Once”. Ke received a standing ovation for his win. He could barely speak from the tears. He called his win the American Dream and an honour of a lifetime.
The award for Best Supporting Actress went to Jamie Lee Curtis for her role in “Everything Everywhere All at Once”. Curtis said that it looked like she was standing there alone but she was hundreds of people who have worked on the film…and all of the films she has done over the years; saying “we just won an Oscar”.
The award for Best Documentary Feature Film went to “Navalny” – the story of a Russian opposition leader who is in prison for daring to tell the truth.
The award for Best Life Action Short Film went to “An Irish Goodbye”.
The award for Best Achievement in Cinematography went to James Friend for “All Quiet on the Western Front”.
The award for the Best Achievement in Makeup and Hairstyle went to “The Whale”. The crew used digital prosthetics for the first time to create the character.
Oscar salutes Warner Brothers who celebrates 100 years of film.

The award for Best Achievement in Costume Design went to Ruth Carter for “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever”. She dedicated the award to her 101 year old mother who died this week.
The award for Best International Feature Film went to “All Quiet on the Western Front” form Germany.
The award for Best Documentary Short Film went to “The Elephant Whisperers”.
The award for Best Animated Short Film went to “The Boy, The Mole, The Fox, and The Horse”. The filmmakers worked remotely during covid to create the film.
The award for Best Achievement in Production Design went to “All Quiet on the Western Front”.
The award for Best Original Score Volker Bertlemann for “All Quiet on the Western Front”.
The award for Best Achievement in Visual Effects went to “Avatar: The Way of Water”.
The award for Best Original Screenplay went to Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert for “Everything Everywhere All at Once”.
The award for Best Adapted Screenplay went to Sarah Polley for “Women Talking”.
The award for Best Achievement in Sound went to “Top Gun: Maverick”. Some of the sounds were created by going out and actually recording the sounds of Navy fliers and aircraft carriers. The pilots who helped to create the air scenes were present at the Oscars.
The award for Best Original Song went to “Natu Natu” from “RRR”. The first ever song nominated from a film created in India.
John Travolta presents the In Memoriam segment. Lenny Kravitz provides the music as the names of those who have died over the past year are shown.
The award for Best Achievement in Film Editing went to Paul Rogers for “Everything Everywhere All at Once”.
The award for Best Direction of a Film went to Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert for “Everything Everywhere All at Once”.
The award for Best Leading Actor went to Brandon Fraser for his role in “The Whale”.
The award for Best Leading Actress went to Michelle Yeoh for her role in “Everything Everywhere All at Once”. Yeoh called the award a beacon of hope for all the little girls and boys who look like her. She dedicated the award to all the moms in the world – the true superheroes.
Harrison Ford presented the biggest award of the night for Best Picture to “Everything Everywhere All at Once”. The film won a total of seven of the eleven nominations at tonight’s awards presentation.
