In the final race of the West coast swing, the Xfinity Series travels to the one mile track of Phoenix Raceway for the United Rentals 200.

Thirty-nine teams brought cars to Phoenix to fill 38 starting spots including Cup Series champion Kyle Busch in the number 10 Kaulig Racing car for his second of five Xfinity Series starts.

After a 20 minute practice session, the drivers take to the track for single car one lap qualifying.

The first driver on the track to make a qualifying run is Dawson Cram who posts a time of 28.587 seconds around the one mile track.

With a time of 27.869, Sheldon Creed is the first driver to break the 28 second mark in making a qualifying run.

Starting the season on crutches with a knee injury, Daniel Hemric ditched the crutches this week and put his number eleven car up front with a time of 27.845 seconds around the one mile track with 10 cars remaining to qualify.

Parker Kligerman hit the wall making his qualifying run after the tires locked up.  The crew has about three hours till race time to either repair the car or move to a backup car.  Less than half an hour before race start, the crew was still working on the backup car trying to get it ready for the race.

Kyle Busch has chosen not to make a qualifying run after having some trouble with the car during practice.  He will start the race from the back of the field.  While the other drivers must start the race on the tires they used to make a qualifying run, Busch will start the race on sticker tires after the crew had to make some changes in the fueling system

After leading practice and posting a qualifying time of 27.701 seconds, Cole Custer will sit on the pole and bring the field to green. JR Motorsports driver Justin Allagier will start alongside Custer on the front row.

Stages one and two of the race are 45 laps each with stage three lasting 110 laps for a total of 200 laps around the one mile track.  The drivers can do 80 to 85 laps on a single load of fuel.

Jeffrey Earnhardt will also start the race from the back of the field after the crew made some unapproved adjustments; along with Kyle Busch and Parker Kligerman.

Kevin Harvick and Joey Logano join Adam Alexander in the FOX broadcast booth for today’s race.

Cole Custer brings the field down for the green flag start for some racing in the desert and the drivers immediately get three and four wide.

Lap five Cole Custer has a lead of over half a second on Sheldon Creed; Daniel Hemric, Justin Allgaier, and John Hunter Nemechek round out the top five.  Kyle Busch ahs moved up 13 spots since race start.

Lap seven, Cole Custer has pulled out to a lead of nearly two seconds on Sheldon Creed; Justin Allgaier, Johb Hunter Nemechek, and Daniel Hemric round out the top five.  Kyle Busch is just outside the top 20 in 21st.

Lap 10, Cole Custer continues to increase his lead and is now over two seconds in front of Sheldon Creed; Justin Allgaier, John Hunter Nemechek, and Daniel Hemric round out the top five.

Lap 13 Sheldon Creed and Justin Allgaier battle back and forth for second place over two seconds behind leader Cole Custer.

Lap 20, Cole Custer continues to dominate the race with a lead of over two seconds on Justin Allgaier; Sheldon Creed, John Hunter Nemechek, and Sammy Smith round out the top five.  Kyle Busch is now in the top 15 in 14th place.

Daniel Hemric is reporting a loose condition in his car.

Lap 22, Cole Custer has led every lap so far and is 2.47 seconds in front of Justin Allgaier; Sheldon Creed, Sammy Smith, and John Hunter Nemechek round out the top five.  Dawson Cram is off the track.

Lap 26, the top five are Cole Custer, Justin Allgaier, Sheldon Creed, John Hunter Nemechek, and Sammy Smith.  Kyle Busch has moved up 23 spots to 14th but hasn’t been able to move any further.

Phoenix native, 18 year old Leland Honeyman brings out the caution flag after his rear panel fell off.

None of the drivers came down pit road for tires or adjustments.

Cole Custer brings the field down for the green flag restart from the inside lane with just 10 laps remaining in stage one with Justin Allgaier on the outside.  Drivers spread out across the track with Custer holding on to the lead.  Justin Allgaier and Sammy Smith battle for second.  Kyle Busch has entered the top 10.

This time, Justin Allgaier stays on leader Cole Custer’s bumper and comes up on the outside to battle for the lead.

Lap 39, Justin Allgaier takes the lead.

Josh Berry spins out and brings out the second caution flag of the race.  Chandler Smith ran into the back of Berry and sent him spinning.

Several drivers come down pit road to short pit the end of the stage. 

After staying out on the track, Justin Allgaier brings the field down for the two lap shootout to end the stage from the outside lane with Cole Custer on the inside.  Justin Allgaier jumps out in front for the lead as the drivers get four wide across the track with Kyle Busch in the middle of them.

Sam Mayer brings the field down for the green flag start of stage two from the outside lane with John Hunter Nemechek alongside on lap 56 with Nemechek edging out for the lead.

Brett Moffitt brings out the third caution flag of the race on lap 56 when he spins out after making contact with Jeremy Clements.

John Hunter Nemechek brings the field down for the green flag restart from the inside lane with Sam Mayer alongside on lap 63.   Nemechek jumps out in front for the lead as drivers get spread out three and four wide across the track.

Lap 64, the top five are John Hunter Nemechek, Austin Hill, Sam Mayer, Jeb Burton, and Ryan Truex.

Ryan Truex passes Jeb Burton for fourth.

Dawson Cram has returned to the track to put all 38 drivers on the track but he is 29 laps down.

Lap 67, John Hunter Nemechek has a half second lead on Austin Hill; Sam Mayer, Ryan Truex, and Josh Berry round out the top five.

Connor Mosack spins out and brings out the caution flag on lap 70.  He gets the car moving again.

John Hunter Nemechek brings the field down for the green flag restart on lap 75 with Austin Hill on the outside.  Drivers get five wide on the restart.

NASCAR has assessed a penalty on John Hunter Nemechek for going below the yellow line before passing the start/finish line.  He will have to serve a pass through penalty.  Austin Hill takes the lead

Lap 79, the top five are Austin Hill, Sammy Smith, Ryan Truex, Sam Mayer, and Josh Berry with Kyle Busch in sixth.

There are just nine laps remaining in stage two with Austin Hill leading the race; Sammy Smith, Ryan Truex, Josh Berry, and Sam Mayer round out the top five.

Josh Berry spins out again and brings out the sixth caution flag with just seven laps remaining in stage two.  Berry spins after some contact from JR Motorsports teammate Sam Mayer.

When pit road opens, the field comes down pit road for service to short pit the end of stage two.  Justin Allgaier stayed out on the track and will lead the field for the shootout to end stage two.

This is the eighth time in Justin Allgaier’s career that he has swept the stages but in five of those races, he failed to win the race.

Austin Hill is the new leader.

Austin Hill brings the field down for the green flag start of stage three from the inside lane with Daniel Hemric on the outside on lap 101.  Drivers spread out across the track with Kyle Busch coming up on the inside to take the lead form third.

Sammy Smith moves up to battle with Kyle Busch to battle for the lead with Austin HIll and Daniel Hemric right behind them.

Lap 102, Kyle Busch leads the race but Sammy Smith passes to take the lead.

Lap 104, the top five are Sammy Smith, Kyle Busch, Daniel Hemric, Austin Hill, and Sam Mayer.

Lap 105, Sammy Smith has a lead of over half a second on Kyle Busch; Daniel Hemric, Austin Hill, and Sam Mayer round out the top five.

Lap 109, Sammy Smith has pulled out to a lead of nearly a second and a half on Kyle Busch; Daniel Hemric, Austin Hill, and John Hunter Nemechek round out the top five.

Lap 115, Sammy Smith has a lead of over a second on Kyle Busch; Austin Hill, Daniel Hemric, and Sam Mayer round out the top five.

Kyle Busch is slowly eating into Sammy Smith’s lead.

Lap 118, Sammy Smith has pulled out to increase his lead over Kyle Busch to over a second and a half; Austin Hill, Daniel Hemric, and John Hunter Nemechek round out the top five.

Lap 120, Sammy Smith’s lead is now over two seconds on Kyle Busch.

The race began under cloudy skies, but the sun has since come out and has changed the conditions on the track.

Lap 123, Sammy Smith continues to increase his lead and is now three seconds out in front.  Austin Hill passes Kyle Busch for second but Busch has some debris on his grille.  Busch got up to Austin Hill’s bumper and the debris is off…and the battle to retake second begins.

Lap 127, Sammy Smith has a lead of nearly three and a half seconds on Austin Hill with Kyle Busch in third; John Hunter Nemechek and  Sam Mayer round out the top five.

Lap 132, Sammy Smith continues to have a three plus second lead on Austin Hill with Kyle Busch in third; John Hunter Nemechek and Sam Mayer rounding out the top five.  Busch slaps the wall but the track stays green.

After being one of only a few drivers to make a pit stop at the end of stage two, Justin Allgaier has moved through the field and is in 13th place.

The eighth caution flag of the race comes out on lap 138 when Gray Gaulding is stopped against the wall.  The drivers are in their pit window to make it to the end of the race on fuel with 30 drivers on the lead lap.  Gaulding is out of his car and walks unaided to the safety truck for the mandatory ride to the infield care center after a hard hit.

Sammy Smith leads a large pack of drivers down pit road for service.  This is the last set of fresh tires for the drivers who stop.  Austin Hill wins the race off of pit road with Kyle Busch coming out second.  Sammy Smith came out in third place.

Austin Hill brings the field down for the green flag restart on the inside lane with Kyle Busch on the outside with 53 laps remaining in the race.  The drivers spread out four and five wide across the track with Austin Hill in the lead but Kyle Busch comes up on the outside with Sammy Smith in the middle to make it a three wide battle for the lead. 

Sheldon Creed brings out the ninth caution flag with 51 laps to go after he spins out with a flat tire.  He manages to avoid hitting any other driver during the spin.

Sammy Smith is listed as the lead at the time the caution flag came out.

Sammy Smith brings the field down for the green flag restart with 44 laps remaining in the race.  Kyle Busch is alongside on the outside lane.  Justin Allgaier has move back through the field to fifth place.

Driver spread out across the track with Sammy Smith in the lead and John Hunter Nemechek in second on lap 157.

The top five are Sammy Smith, John Hunter Nemechek, Kyle Busch, Austin Hill, and Josh Berry.

There are 34 cars on the lead laps with Dawson Cram off the track and Gray Gaulding out of the race.

Just 39 laps to go, Sammy Smith has a lead of over a second and a half on John Hunter Nemechek; Kyle Busch, Josh Berry, and Austin Hill round out the top five.

With 37 laps to go, Sammy Smith has led 55 laps so far.

Lap 166, Sammy Smith has pulled out to a lead of nearly two and a half seconds on John Hunter Nemechek.

Anthony Alfredo brings out the tenth caution flag of the race on lap 170 when he spins out.

Sammy Smith brings the field down for the green flag restart on lap 176 with Sammy Smith holding on to the lead after a three wide battle.  John Hunter Nemechek brings gets into the wall but the track stays green.

With 23 laps to go, Sammy Smith leads the race with Kyle Busch in second; Josh Berry, Austin Hill, and Riley Herbst round out the top five

Teammates Brandon Jones, Josh Berry, and Justin Allgaier make contact during a four wide battle and causes some damage to Allgaier’s car; bringing out the caution flag on lap 178.  Brett Moffitt and Kaz Grala were also involved.

Sammy Smith brings the field down for the green flag restart with Kyle Busch alongside with just 15 laps remaining in the race.  Smith runs Busch up the track as he jumps out in front for the lead.

With 14 to go the top five are Sammy Smith, Kyle Busch, Chandler Smith, Ryan Truex, and Austin Hill.

With 13 to go, Chandler Smith battles with Kyle Busch for second with Ryan Truex on their bumper.

Eleven to go, Ryan Truex passes Chandler Smith for third and Kyle Busch for second.

Just nine laps remain in the race with Sammy Smith leading the racy by half a second over Ryan Truex.

Six to go, Sammy Smith holds on to the lead with Ryan Truex in second; Kyle Busch, Chandler Smith, and Riley Herbst round out the top five.

Three to go and Sammy Smith is still out in front and looking for his first career win.

Sammy Smith takes the white flag as Kyle Busch and Chandler Smith battle for third.

On the final lap Kyle Busch spins out but saves the car; he ends up in ninth place.

Sammy Smith wins the race for his first career win.  The 18 year old takes high school classes online during the week and races on weekends. 

Sammy Smith is the youngest Xfinity Series winner at Phoenix.
