What was intended to be a weekend celebration of the final events at Auto Club Speedway as a two mile track ended up being a scramble to outsmart Mother Nature and complete not one but two races.  In the end NASCAR won with a packed house and a doubleheader race on Sunday with the Cup Series running the Pala Casino 400 followed by the Xfinity Series with the Production Alliance Group 300.

In only his second points race as a driver for Richard Childress Racing, Kyle Busch took his number eight car to victory lane and set a couple of records in the process.

Previously Busch was tied with Richard Petty for the most consecutive seasons with at least one victory with 18.  Busch’s win at Auto Club Speedway puts him at the top with 19 seasons with at least one win.  The win also put the Busch brothers – Kurt and Kyle – at the top with the most wins by siblings with 95; beating out Bobby and Donnie Allison.  Kyle Busch’s Auto Club Speedway also gives him a win at the two mile track for every one of his three car owners – Rick Hendrick, Joe Gibbs, and Richard Childress.

Ross Chastain leads the point standings with 92 points.  With only two races of the 26 regular season it is a bit early to speculate on who will be making the list of 16 playoff drivers; but after the first two races, Ross Chastain leads the way with 2018 points.
