A record 61 cars started the 61st annual Rolex 24 Hours at Daytona before a record crowd at Daytona International Speedway.  The 234 drivers represented part tie drivers and full time drivers from all areas of racing including NASCAR, IndyCar, and Formula One.

An endurance race that sees the clock go twice around it features some of the best drivers in the world, but it’s all about the cars!

With the return of the GTP (Grand Touring Prototype), there are a total of five classes of cars this year running the 3.56 mile road course at Daytona that encompasses part of the high banked oval.

The LMP2, LMP3, and GTDPro classes all feature teams of professional drivers with the GTD class not only including non pro drivers, was also the largest class with 23 cars.

But the biggest excitement of the weekend was for the return of the GTP class which featured nine hybrid cars.

After 24 hours of racing with 16 car manufacturers, 234 drivers, and 783 laps; 50 of the original 61 cars finished the race.  With a lead of over four seconds the number 60 Acura GTP hybrid won the race for the second year in a row with Tom Blomqvist behind the wheel and teammates Helio Castroneves, Colin Braun, and Simon Pagenaud.  This is the third year in a row that the four time Indianapolis 500 winning Helio Castroneves has won the Rolex 24 at Daytona.  Blomqvist and Pagenaud were also a part of the win in 2022.

The top four finishers were all LMDh hybrid cars!

The number 55 Proton Competition ORECA 07 car edges out to a win in the LMP2 class by 0.016 seconds with James Allen behind the wheel.

With a 12 lap lead, the number 17 AWA Duquiene D08 car won the LMP3 class with Wayne Boyd driving with teammates Anthony Mantella, Nico Varrone and Thomas Merrill.

In the GTD Pro class , Maro Engel, Cooper MacNeil, Daniel Juncadella and Jules Gounon drove the number 79 WeatherTech Racing Mercedes-AMG GT3 car with a near four second lead.

And in the GTD class, Marco Sorenson, Roman De Angelis, Ian James and Darren Turner crossed the line first in the number 27 Heart of Racing Team’s Aston Martin car.
