Since the release of “Dark Side of the Moon” by Pink Floyd in 1973, the album has sold over 50 million copies around the world. Now for the 50th anniversary of the album’s release, the bnad is releasing a deluxe boxed set.
Even before the album was recorded, the Pink Floyd premiered at least part of the album at the Rainbow Theatre in London.
Set for a March 24 release, the new deluxe release includes a CD, a newly remastered vinyl edition of the album, a Blu-Ray/DVD audio version, and CD and LP versions of a live performance of the album at Wembley Stadium.
A separate CD and vinyl album is being released of the live Wembley performance; as well as, a “Dark Side of the Moon: 50th Anniversary” book.
Along with the anniversary release, Pink Floyd has announced a new competition where fans can create their own animated music videos to the songs – one entry per song. Floyd drummer Nick Mason, Floyd’s creative director Aubrey “Po” Powell, and the British Film Institute will determine the winners of the contest. The deadline for submission is November 30, 2023. There was no mention of what the prize for the winning video would be. Entries are submitted via the Pink Floyd web page at pinkfloyd.com.
Also planned as a part of the celebration is a 50th anniversary planetarium show. Visitors will see “Stunning visuals of the solar system…and beyond” as the album plays. The show is scheduled to air around the world. Interested fans should check their local planetarium for details.
The “Dark Side of the Moon” anniversary package is available for pre-order and is currently on sale at Amazon for $299.
