It is nearly impossible to watch an NFL game and not see a commercial for at least one of several mobile gambling sites. But the NFL has a rule prohibiting its members from places sports related bets.
The NFL has suspended indefinitely – for at least a year – New York Jets wide receivers coach Miles Austin for gambling despite Austin’s insistence that he made no sports related bets.
Austin has appealed the suspension and has been freely cooperating with authorities saying that he had made only table games bets.
Austin was not on the field for the Jaguars -Jets game for Thursday Night Football. The Jacksonville Jaguars won the game 19 to 3.
Austin’s attorney and agent William P. Deni Jr spoke on the accusation saying, “the NFL suspended Miles Austin for wagering from a legal mobile account on table games and non-NFL professional sports. Miles did not wager on any NFL game in violation of the gambling policy for NFL personnel. He has been fully cooperative with the NFL’s investigation. He is appealing his suspension.”
A former player for the NFL spending eight years with the Dallas Cowboys and a year each with the Cleveland Browns and Philadelphia Eagles; Austin is in his second season as a member of New York Jets’ head coach Robert Saleh’s staff. Previously he was on the coaching staff for the San Francisco 49ers and the Dallas Cowboys.
