Over the past several years, arts organizations like the National Endowment for the Arts have seen the amount of finding received from the federal government decrease.

But with the $1.7 trillion federal budget passed by both the Senate and the House includes a $30 million increase in arts funding.0

In the final major legislation before the end of the year and a new Congress, the Senate passed the bill 68 to 29; with the House of Representative passing the measure 225 to 201.

The bill expected to be signed by President Joe Biden will give the National Endowment for the Arts a 2023 budget of $207 million to fund arts education, cultural heritage projects, and help to promote equal access to the arts.  PBS television also depends on the NEA to aid in bringing educational and cultural programs to the network.  The NEA also helps to endow Musical Theater and Shakespeare productions across the country.

In 1985 the NEA was presented with a Tony Honour and a Special Tony in 2016 in recognition of the organization’s 50th anniversary.
