All the games have been played and the Houston Astros have been named the World Series champions. Now it is time to hand out the various awards for outstanding play during the season.
Winning by over 100 points, New York Yankees outfielder and home run record holder Aaron Judge wins the award for Most Valuable Player in the American League. Judge passed Roger Maris to take over the lead for the most single season home runs by a player in the American League.
In the National League, St. Louis Cardinals player Paul Goldschmidt took the Most Valuable Player honours. Goldschmidt called it his best season. Retiring St. Louis Cardinal Albert Pujols made the announcement.
It was the first MVP honours for both players. Once of only four players to top 700 career home runs, Pujols spoke on Goldsmhmidt saying, Top of Form”Pauly, the work ethic and the way he goes about it day in and day out, he’s a great teammate. He’s not just a great teammate, but he’s a great person, a great ambassador in this game.”

It was a unanimous decision for the Cy Young Award winners with Houston Astros pitcher Justin Verlander winning the prize in the American League and Sandy Alcantara of the Miami Marlins for the National League. It was only the second time in Cy Young Award history that both winner were selected in a unanimous decision by the Baseball Writer’s Association of America. This was the third Cy Young win for Verlander. Taking home his first Cy Young for Alcantara, it was the third time a Dominican Republic born player earned the award.
This year neither of the Manager of the Year Award winners lead their teams to the World Series. In the American League, the BBWAA selected Cleveland Guardians manager Terry Francona and in the National League New York Mets manager Buck Showalter was named Manager of the Year. Earning his fourth MOY, Showalter became the first manager to win the award with four different teams – Yankees, Rangers, Orioles, and Mets. This was the third MOY award for Francona – all with Cleveland – first the Indians and now the Guardians. The Manager of the Year award winners are selected prior to post season play.
In the Jackie Robinson Rookie of the Year honours, outfielder Julio Rodriguez of the Seattle Mariners won in the American League with Atlanta Braves outfielder Spencer Strider won the award n the National League.
