One last time…
In the final race of the 2022 Camping World Truck Series Ben Rhodes, Ty Majeski, Chandler Smith, and Zane Smith will battle it out on the one track of Phoenix Raceway for the title of champion.
With Camping World leaving the Truck Series as the primary sponsor, it is also the last time the winner of the Championship race will be the last one crowned Champion of the Camping World Truck Series.
Thirty-five teams have brought trucks to Phoenix for 36 starting spots in the Luca Oil 150. All drivers will make the race.
The four drivers battling for the championship does not have to win the race, just finish in front of the other three drivers.
On Thursday, the Truck Series drivers got a full 50 minute practice session. Dean Thompson had a blown engine during practice and had to make an engine change; as a result, Thompson will have to start the race from the back of the field. Derek Kraus will also have to start the race from the back of the field after hitting the wall and moving to a backup truck.
Jake Garcia is the first driver on the track to make a qualifying run and posts a time of 26.641 seconds around the one mile track. Each driver gets just one lap to make his best time on the track.
There is some sort of an issue with the number 88 truck driven by Matt Crafton and the crew is working to get the motor started. Matt Crafton’s crew gets the truck going and he makes a qualifying run that puts him in the top 10.
With a qualifying time of 26.081 seconds Zane Smith put his number 38 truck on the pole. It marks the first time that a playoff driver has earned the pole in a championship race. Only the second truck out on the track, part time driver Layne Riggs with a time of 26.120 seconds will start alongside Smith on the front row.

Stages one and two of the race are 45 laps each with stage three lasting 60 laps for a total of 150 laps around the one mile track. The drivers can run 80 to 85 laps on a single load of fuel and will not have to make a stop for fuel in the middle of a stage.
After winning his first career pole, Zane Smith brings the field down for the green flag start of the race from the inside lane and the drivers immediately spread out three, four, and five wide across the track. Zane Smith takes the lead.
Lap two, Zane Smith leads the race but gets a challenge form Layne Riggs with the part time rookie driver taking the lead; Stewart Friesen, Corey Heim, and Ben Rhodes round out the top five.
Lap four Layne Riggs has a quarter of a second lead on Zane Smith; Corey Heim, Stewart Friesen, and Ben Rhodes round out the top five. Playoff driver Ty Majeski is in sixth and Chandler Smith is in twelfth.
Lap six, Layne Riggs continues to lead the race with Zane Smith in second. Chandler Smith enters the top 10 after passing two trucks in a single pass.
Lap eight, Zane Smith passes Layne Riggs for the lead.
The first caution flag of the race comes out on lap nine for a wreck involving Keith McGee and Armani Williams.
During practice Thursday night, Ty Majeski said that his truck was tight and the team loosened it up a bit; now he is reporting that the truck is too loose.
Zane Smith brings the field down for the green flag restart on lap 14 and jumps out in front with the field spreading out four and five wide across the track.
Lap 15, Zane Smith has a half second lead on Corey Heim; Stewart Friesen, Layne Riggs, and Ben Rhodes round out the top five. Ty Majeski is in tenth place and Chandler Smith is in eleventh.
Lap 17, Zane Smith has increased his lead on Corey Heim to nearly a second; Stewart Friesen, Layne Riggs, and Ben Rhodes round out the top five. Chandler Smith is in tenth and Ty Majeski is in eleventh.
Armani Williams is out of the race.

Lap 30, Zane Smith has pulled out to a lead of nearly two seconds on Corey Heim; Stewart Friesen, Layne Riggs, and Ben Rhodes round out the top five. Chandler Smith remains in ninth place with Ty Majeski in tenth.
Lap 32 John Hunter Nemechek and Ben Rhodes battle for fifth place. With Nemechek taking the spot.

Lap 41, Zane Smith continues to increase his lead and is now over two and a half seconds in front of Corey Heim; Stewart Friesen, John Hunter Nemechek, and Matt Crafton round out the top five. There are 24 trucks on the lead lap. Ben Rhodes is in sixth place, Chandler Smith is in eighth place, and Ty Majeski is in eleventh place.
With a lead of nearly three seconds, Zane Smith wins stage one for his ninth stage win of the season.

Carson Hocevar was charged with going below the yellow line on the restart and had to serve a pass through penalty.

FS1 broadcasters report that there was something stuck between the caliper and brake rotor on Christian Eckes truck; which was causing the sparks.

Lap 77, John Hunters Nemechek’s lead os down to justa third of a second on Zane Smith. Leaders encounter slower traffic.
Lap 79, Zane smith has caught up to leader John Hunter Nemechek and is battling for the lead. So far Nemechek holds Smith off.
Lap 86, the battle for the lead continues between John Hunter Nemechek and Zane Smith.
And with just one lap remaining in stage two, Zane Smith passes John Hunter Nemechek for the lead to win stage two and sweep the stages.

Drivers come down pit road for service with John Hunter Nemechek winning the race off of pit road. Zane Smith had another slow stop and comes out in fourth place.
Matt DiBenedetto was caught speeding on pit road and will have to restart the race from the back of the field.
Coming out in second, Chandler Smith is now the leader of the championship four.
John Hunter Nemechek brings the field down for the green flag start of stage three from the outside lane on lap 99 but it is Chandler Smith who gets out in front for the lead.
the caution flag comes out on lap 99 for a wreck involving Christian Eckes. He gets loose in a six wide battle and gets into the wall. Eckes is on the “crash clock” and has six minutes to get the truck repaired and back on the track to meet minimum speed.

Chandler Smith brings the field down for the green flag restart on lap 105 from the inside lane and battles with teammate John Hunter Nemechek for the lead as the caution flag comes out on lap 105 when Rajah Caruth gets into the wall. Taylor Gray also has some damage to his truck.

On the last restart, Stewart Friesen got below the yellow line before the restart and had to restart the latest green flag start from the back of the field.

With 16 laps remaining in the race, Hailie Deegan gets into the wall and brings out the caution flag. There is significant damage to her truck. She comes down pit road and takes the truck to the garage.

After staying out on the track Stewart Friesen and Carson Hocevar bring the field down for the green flag restart with just 10 laps remaining in the race. Drivers spread out four and five wide in a battle for position. Stewart Friesen takes the lead with Ben Rhodes in second; Ty Majeski, Carson Hocevar, and Tanner Gray round out the top five.
Eight to go, Stewart Friesen leads the race with Ben Rhodes, Ty Majeski, Zane Smith, and Chandler Smith rounding out the top five.
Seven to go, Ben Rhodes takes the lead with Zane Smith in second; Stewart Friesen, Ty Majeski, and Chandler Smith round out the top five.
Five to go, Ben Rhodes has less than two tenths of a second lead on Zane Smith. All four playoff drivers occupy the top four spots.
Four to go, Ben Rhodes holds on to the lead with Zane Smith on his bumper.
Ty Majeski gets turned around and brings out the caution flag with four laps to go after trying to pass Zane Smith for second.
The race goes into overtime.
Second place driver Zane Smith has dominated the race all night. The past two years, Smith has finished in second place.

After dominating the race, Zane Smith wins the race and the final Camping World Truck Series championship!
Zane Smith burns it down and the truck disappears in a huge cloud of smoke.
After finishing second the past two years, Zane said that it was going to be checkers or wreckers, he wasn’t going to finish second a third year in a row.
