Memorial Day weekend is a special time for NASCAR with special pain schemes as they honour Americans fallen in military service.  But it is also a special time for the Xfinity Series with the Drivers Only weekend.  The broadcast crew takes the weekend off and some of the Cup Series drivers take over.  This year Brad Keselowski, Aric Almirola, and Ricky Stenhouse Jr will work from the Charlotte Studios; while Tyler Reddick and Austin Cindric will roam the pits and Kevin Harvick, Joey Logano, and Ryan Blaney will broadcast the race.

Trevor Bayne is also stepping away from his broadcast duties this week but it isn’t to join the Drivers Only crew, but to hop into the number 18 car to run in the Alsco Uniforms 300.

After setting a record for the most caution flags at a mile and a half track in a 250 mile race at Texas Motor Speedway last week, the Xfinity Series gets their practice session started off with a caution flag when Jeffrey Earnhardt is stopped on the track and Justin Allgaier has a tire issue.

Matt Mills is the first driver on the track for single car qualifying and posts a time of 31.425 seconds.

Ryan Preece, running all three races this weekend, broke the 31 second marks with a time of 30.261 seconds.

Clocking a time of 30.018 seconds, 18 year old Sam Mayer puts his JR Motorsports number one car on the pole for his first career pole.  Team mate Justin Allgaier will start alongside on the front row.

Kyle Sieg, Ronnie Bassett Jr, Mason Massey, and David Starr failed to qualify for the race.
