For the second week in a row, NASCAR features a triple header weekend from Circuit of the Americas.

The Camping World Truck Series kicks the weekend off with qualifying for the Xpel 225.

A total of 39 teams brought trucks to Austin, Texas for 36 spots in the field.

Driving the first of his five Truck Series races this season, team owner Kyle Busch is driving the number 51 truck this week. This will be Busch’s first time running a road course race in the Truck Series.

Cup Series regular Alex Bowman is also running the the Truck Series race this weekend.

A 20 turn road course, qualifying is a bit different for the teams. All 39 drivers will have a 20 minute practice session before the field is divided into two groups where they will have a 15 minute qualifying session. Drivers can make as many laps as they wish in those 15 minutes. The top five drivers from each group will get a second session of 10 minute practice session before making a single truck run for a shot to sit on the pole and bring the field to the green flag.

After their qualifying rounds Tyler Hill, Samuel Lecomte, and John Atwell failed to make the field.

With a time of 2:14.92, Sheldon Creed put his number 20 truck on the pole with Zane Smith starting alongside on the front row. Cup Series drivers Alex Bowman and Kyle Busch will start the race in the first three rows with Bowman starting third ,and Busch starting fifth.

While he earned the pole, Sheldon Creed noted that they may end up starting the race from the back of the field due to a fuel pump change; noting that there was an issue with the pump.

A total of 14 drivers will have to start the race from the back of the field including pole sitter Sheldon Creed. John Hunter Nemechek, Kris Wright, Kaz Grala, Mat Crafton, Logan Beardan, Lawless Alan, Jack Wood, Blaine Perkins, Brad Perez, Will Rodgers, Matt Jaskol, and Matt DiBenedetto are also having to start from the back of the field.

Stage one of the race is 12 laps long, stage two is 14 laps long; with stage three lasting 16 laps for a total of 42 laps around the track.

Andy Lally joins Michael Waltrip and Vince Welch in the FOX broadcast booth for today’s race.

Once the green flag dropped, Matt Crafton had to make a pass through penalty after inspection issues.

Austin Wayne Self spins out and makes contact with Taylor Gray but the track stays green.

Kyle Busch takes the lead going into turn 12 on lap number two.

Lap three, Sheldon Creed takess his truck to the garage.

Lap five, Kyle Busch has pulled out to a led of nearly three seconds with Parker Kligerman in second; Alex Bowman, Zane Smith, and Stewart Friesen round out the top five.

Lap six, Kyle Busch holds on to his three second lead on Parker Kligerman; Alex Bowman, Zane Smith, and Stewart Friesen round out the top five.

Grant Enfinger reports that he is having some brake issues; adding that he has to push the pedal all the way to the floor.

Matt Jaskol is off the track with Logan Beardan and Blaine Perkins in the pits.

Hailie Deegan had to make a pass through penalty after cutting short the S curves.

Lap seven, Kyle Busch has increased his lead to four seconds on Parker Kligerman.

Sheldon Creed is out of the race with drivetrain issues.

Lap seven, the top five are Kyle Busch, Parker Kligerman, Alex Bowman, Zane Smith, and Stewart Friesen.

With four laps remaining in stage one, some of the drivers are short pitting and coming down pit road for fresh tires.


Lap nine, leader Kyle Busch comes down pit road for service and gives the lead over to Parker Kligerman.

Lap 12, Zane Smith and Stewart Friesen battle for the lead.

The caution flag comes out when Dean Thompson spins out.

Parker Kligerman reports that his cool suit is not working…and it is a hot day with temps in the mid 80’s. He will be doing double duty today, also driving in the Xfinity Series race.

Kyle Busch brings the field down for the green flag restart on lap 18. Busch takes the lead going into turn one as drivers get three wide across the track.

Tanner Gray gets turned around but the track stays green as Gray gets moving again.

Kazz Grala spins out as Johbn Hunter Nemechek takes second place.

Lap 19, the top five are Kyle Busch, John Hunter Nemechek, Alex Bowman, Parker Kligerman, and Carson Hocevar.

Earlier this week, KBM owner Kyle Busch made a bet with his drivers; whichever driver finishes the lowest of the three KBM drivers – Busch, John Hunter Nemechek, and Chandler Smith – finish the lowest has to wash all the windshields at KBM next week.

Lap 20, Chase Purdy and Matt Crafton make contact and bring out the caution flag when Crafton gets stuck in the gravel. Purday also spins out but gets the truck moving once again.

Matt Crafton is out of the gravel pit and has made a pit stop. Drivers come down pit road for service.

John Hunter Nemechek stays out on the track and will bring the field to the green with Zane Smith alongside. There are four laps remaining in stage two.

John Hunter Nemechek was charged with having an uncontrolled tire when he made his pit stop. He will have to serve a pass through penalty for the infraction.

Two laps remain in stage two and Zane Smith is the leader with Ben Rhodes nearly three seconds back; Derek Kraus, Chandler Smith, and Kyle Busch round out the top five.

Zane Smith wins stage two for the stage sweep. Last year, Todd Gilliland won the race in the number 38 truck; can Zane Smith keep the record going???

After getting four laps down, Austin Wayne Self has worked his way back to the lead lap.

Jack Wood and Kris Wright get spun around but the track stays green, Hailie Deegen pulls her truck off the track reporting that she can’t turn.

With 13 laps to go, Kyle Busch leads the race iwht Chandler Smith in second; Carson Hocevar, Stewart Friesen, and Parker Kligerman round out the top five.

The caution flag comes out after Hailie Deegan has steering issues and is stopped on the track.

Five to go, Kyle Busch has a lead of over a second and a half on Stewart Friesen. After restarting the race in 20th place, Zane Smith has entered the top 10.

Four to go, Kyle Busch leads the race with fellow Cup Series driver Alex Bowman in second; Stewart Friesen, Parker Kligerman, and Chandler Smith round out the top five. Busch has a two second lead on Bowman.

Derek Kraus and Kris Wright each spin out but the track stays green.

The caution flag comes out with just three laps to go when Christian Eckes spins out and Matt Jaskol gets stalled on the track.

The race is going into overtime!

The caution flag comes out when Kaz Grala gets buried in the gravel pit and there is debris scattered on the track.

Crews get Kaz Grala out of the gravel and he is moving once again.

The race goes into a second overtime. Several dirvers come down pit road for fuel and fresh tires.

Kyle Busch brings the field down for the second green flag overtime shootout and edges out Alex Bowman for the lead. Stewart Freisen passes Alex Bowman for second place.

Kyle Busch, Stewart Friesen, and Alex Bowman are side by side for the lead and make contact. Zane Smith is the new leader.

Zane Smith takes the white flag as drivers continue to battle throughout the field.

With a lead of over three seconds, Zane Smith wins the race for the second win at COTA for Front Row Motorsports and the number 38 truck. This is Smith’s second win of the season.
