The Deaf West Theatre is pairing up with the Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchestra for a production of Beethoven’s opera “Fidelio” April 14-16 at the Walt Disney Concert Hall.

The semi-staged production is being designed with both hearing and Deaf audiences in mind. Gustavo Dudamel will lead the orchestra with the lyrics sung by hearing vocalists and signed by deaf actors.

Previously the Deaf West Theatre has collaborated on productions of “Big River” and “Spring Awakening”. Both productions were seen on the Broadway stage.

“Fidelio” was written by Ludwig von Beethoven at a time when he was dealing with his own deafness. It tells the story of triumph over oppression when the noblewoman Leonore attempts to rescue her husband who is a political prisoner.

Singers Christiane Libor, Ian Koziara, Ran Speedo Green, and Gariella Reyes are scheduled to join deaf actors Amelia Hensley, Josh Castille, Russell Harvard, and Indi Robinson in the production.
