On June 17, the Cup Series drivers ran the Bluegreen Vacations Duel races to complete setting the field for the Daytona 500. New car owner Brad Keselowski won Duel number one to start the race behind pole sitter Kyle Larson. In Duel number two, fellow Roush Fenway Keselowski driver Chris Buescher won the race to start the 500 beside his team mate and boss Brad Keselowski.

On Friday afternoon NASCAR has confiscated the wheels of the RFK Racing team. NASCAR has also taken the wheels of the Team Penske drivers Joey Logano, Austin Cindric, and Ryan Blaney.

NASCAR gave no details as to why the wheels were confiscated. They have been sent to the NASCAR R&D Center for further inspection.

The new Next Gen car no longer has a five lug nut wheel; but a larger 18 inch single center hub lug nut that is reusable.

Coming to the finish line in Duel number two, Joey Logano made contact with Chris Buescher and wrecked his car. Logano will start the Daytona 500 in a backup car.

Last month NASCAR announced a new set of penalties to go along with the new car. As predicted, the penalties are much harsher than those for the previous models. If a penalty is severe enough or has been repeated enough times, it can reach $500,000 and/or loss of participation in the playoffs.
