Last season Ty Gibbs ran just a part time schedule driving for his grandfather Joe Gibbs and Joe Gibbs Racing.  This season, the 19 year old Gibbs will run the entire season in the Xfinity Series.  Gibbs won four of the 18 races he ran last season including two road course races.  Kyle Busch, Christopher Bell, and John Hunter Nemechek also won races driving the number 54 car last season.

He also ran 20 races in the ARCA Menards Series, winning 10 of them and won the championship.

Gibbs will continue to drive the number 54 car that had several different drivers last season.  Chris Gayle will be the crew chief for the car.

Gibbs spoke on his full time ride via a team release saying, “I’m excited to get going on the 2022 season.  Chris Gayle and the crew guys from the 54 were great last year and hopefully we can have even more success this year. Of course, I can’t thank everyone at Toyota and TRD enough for all their support as well. I’m just ready to get going in the No. 54 Toyota GR Supra.”
