There is less than two weeks before the official beginning of the 2022 NASCAR season and teams continue to sign drivers.

One of those drivers is the grandson of an iconic member of the NASCAR community. Known as The King, Richard Petty’s grandson Thad Moffitt will be joining GMS Racing and the Reaume Brothers Racing to drive the equally iconic number 43 car in the Camping World Truck Series in the NextEra Energy 250 on February 17. During his career, Petty drove the number 43 with STP as his sponsor. Moffitt will also have STP for a sponsor.

Moffitt is planning to make his debut at Daytona International Speedway for his first ever NASCAR race outside of the ARCA Series.

Moffitt spoke on his new ride saying, “I am super excited to make my NASCAR Camping World Truck Series debut at Daytona in the No. 43 Reaume Brothers Racing Chevrolet with team support from GMS Racing. Daytona is a track that has a lot of family history, and having STP onboard makes it that much more special. It truly is an honor to run the iconic STP branding on my Silverado along with my fire suit, and I am hoping to represent their longtime support of my family in a great way.”

Josh Reaume of Reaume Brothers Racing also spoke on the new addition to the team saying, I am thrilled to be able to partner with GMS and have their support; they are an extremely strong and highly respected organization that I have a great relationship with. Everyone at Reaume Brothers Racing is excited to work with Thad and have him make his Truck debut with us. Lastly, it’s an honor to play a role in helping continue the Petty Family racing tradition. Thad is a very talented young driver, and it will be fun to watch him grow and see where his career takes him.”

Grandpa Richard had a few words to say on Thad’s driving in the CWTS saying, “obviously, I’ve watched Thad’s career grow and he is ready for this next step in the Camping World Truck Series. It will be great to see another member of the Petty family racing with STP.” said Petty.

In the Xfinity Series, Coach Joe Gibbs has added to his stable of drivers with the signing of former Daytona 500 winner Trevor Bayne to drive the number 18 car for seven races.

Coach Gibbs is expected to sign more drivers for the car in the coming days.

Trevor Bayne spoke on the signing via a release saying, “over the past three years I didn’t know if I’d ever get an opportunity to race for wins again, but my desire to do so never faded. I’m so excited to have this opportunity to work with Jason and everyone at JGR. I want nothing more than to come back stronger than ever and put that Devotion Nutrition Supra into Victory Lane.”
