British pop singer Ed Sheeran has amassed some musical records that have only been seen by long time artists. In less than a dozen years he has reached 150 million in album sales and has earned a total of 29 platinum certifications by the RIAA – Recording Industry Association of America – 19 of which are multi-platinum awards.
Sheeran’s latest accomplishment is ending 2021 as the first artist to reach three billion streams on a single song when his smash hit “Shape of You” topped three billion – that’s billion with a B – streams on Spotify alone! “Shape of You” has been awarded Diamond status by the RIAA for selling at least 10 million copies in the United States alone. The album “Divide” has been certified five time platinum for selling five million copies.
The singles “Perfect” and “Thinking Out Loud” have also earned Diamond status from the RIAA.
Sheeran has planned some tour dates in the UK and Europe beginning in the spring and running into the fall with many outdoor performances.
