Covid and it various versions ravages the world but one thing is as sure as if it were carved in stone…the annual New Year’s Honour’s List presented by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.

Among those honoured this year was a break from tradition when Her Majesty presented the Order of Saint Michael and Saint George – an award reserved for foreign diplomats and spies – to an actor…one who portrays the world’s most famous spy – James Bond.

The latest actor to portray Bond is Daniel Craig who just completed his fifth film as the famous spy.  Craig was among the real life spies and diplomats who were named as recipients of the Companion of the Order of Saint Michael and Saint George. For his contributions to film and theatre.

Bond creator Ian Fleming had James Bond also holding the Order of Saint Michael and Saint George in his books; most especially “You Only Live Twice” as a part of Bond’s obituary.

Craig wasn’t the only person affiliated with the Bond films to be named; producers Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson each received a CBE – Commander of the Order of the British Empire for their service to film, drama, and philanthropy.

Other recipients of Honours from The Queen include knighthoods – Dames for women – to actors Joanna Lumley and Vanessa Redgrave for the service to drama, entertainment, and charity.

Actors June Brown and Bill Roache have earned an OBE – Officer of the Order of the British Empire.

Actress Cherylee Houstin received an MBE – Member of the Order of the British Empire for her acting and service to people with disabilities.

In the world of music Spice Girl Mel B. and Diversity member Ashley Banjo have earned an MBE.  Comedian Adam Hills, “Good Morning Britain” star Kate Garraway, and Olympic diver Tom Daley also earned MBE’s.

Prime Minister Boris Johnson spoke on the Honours recipients saying, “these recipients have inspired and entertained us and given so much to their communities in the UK or in many cases around the world. The honours are an opportunity for us to thank them, as a country, for their dedication and outstanding contribution.”
