Since flying into theatres just 12 days ago, the new Spider Man movie – “Spider-Man: No Way Home” – it has topped the billion dollar mark in ticket sales – nearly half of that is in North America alone.

Even with a 69 percent drop from opening week, Spidey brought in over $81 million at the box office – more than the remaining top 10 movies grossed combined!  With the $81.5 million weekend, the latest Spider Man film has pulled in $467 million.  The film has grossed $587.1 million outside of North America for a total of $1.05 billion.

Considering a very volatile year for entertainment venues with the Covid-19 pandemic still in full swing, the film has accomplished a feat of Hollywood proportions.  “Spider-Man: No Way Home” has tied with “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” in third place for reaching the billion dollar mark in the shortest amount of time.  But this time, the feat was accomplished without a film release in China and during a pandemic.

The animated film “Sing 2” brought in jut $23.8 million with “The Matrix Resurrections” comes in in third place with just $12 million in ticket sales.

With North American theatres having been re-opened less than a year, film makers have brought in some $4 billion in 2021.
