In January the NASCAR Hall of Fame will induct a new class of inductees.  Along with the new Hall of Famers, will be the presentation of the Squier-Hall Award recipient.

The award is named for Ken Squier and Barney Hall and is presented for Media Excellence in NASCAR.  The 2021 winner is Bob Jenkins.  The tenth person to receive the award, Jenkins will join other recipients Chris Economaki, Tom Higgins, Steve Byrnes, Benny Phillips, Norma “Dusty” Brandel, Steve Waid and Dick Berggren.

The Hall of Fame will also have an exhibit featuring Jenkins.

A posthumous presentation, Jenkins died in August as a result of brain cancer.

Jenkins was the lap by lap announcer on ESPN and ABC for races from 1981 to 2000.  Along with calling over 400 races, Jenkins hosted ESPN’s “Speedweek” for 15 years.

Jenkins also worked at Indianapolis Motor Speedway in a variety of roles including track announcer, turn reporter, and radio and TV announcer for 40 years.

NASCAR Chairman and CEO Jim France spoke on Jenkins saying, “the voice of Bob Jenkins is synonymous with the many great NASCAR moments he called over two decades.  The broadcast team of Jenkins, Ned Jarrett and Benny Parsons is one of the most memorable in NASCAR history, it is fitting to see Bob honored in the NASCAR Hall of Fame.”

During his career, the Richmond, Indiana native has also received the American Motorsports Media Award of Excellence and the Bob Russo Founders Award.
