This past weekend was a rough one for drivers in the Xfinity and Cup Series with several playoff drivers having issues on the track.
When NASCAR issued the penalty report on Tuesday, the drivers weren’t the only ones with issues at Kansas Speedway. A total of six crews were penalized with a total of four crew members suspended including two crew chiefs.
Four teams in the Cup Series were charged with penalties for violating the NASCAR rule book in relation to tire safety.
The Stewart-Haas Racing number 14 car driven by Chase Briscoe and the Team Penske number 22 car driven by Joey Logano were each charged with having a single lug nut improperly secured. As a result, number 14 crew chief Johnny Klausmeier and number 22 crew chief Paul Wolfe have been fined $10,000 each.
The Joe Gibbs Racing number 20 car driven by Christopher Bell was found to have two lug number improperly secured during the post race inspection process. Crew chief Adam Stevens has been fined $20,000 and is being suspended from the race at Martinsville on Sunday.
In the Xfinity Series, two crew chiefs were charged with having a single lug nut improperly secured during the post race inspection process. The Kaulig Racing number 16 car driven by AJ Allmendinger with Jason Trinchere and the number 19 Joe Gibbs Racing car driven by Brandon Jones with Jeff Meendering as crew chief. Each of the crew chiefs were fined $5,000.
Also in the Xfinity Series, the Our Motorsports number 23 car driven by Patrick Emerling dropped some ballast during the race. As a result, crew chief Kenneth Roettger, car chief Robert Anderson, and crew member Drew Beason have all been suspended for four races. There are only two more races remaining in the 2021 racing season. The suspension will carry over to the first two races in 2022.
