NASCAR fans were sure to notice the pink window nets the drivers carried in their cars during the road race on The Roval at Charlotte Motor Speedway.

Honouring breast cancer awareness month, the initiative was two years in the making. Young fan Mason Bradley sent a letter to Kurt Busch that included a drawing of Kurt’s car with a pink window net. Young Bradley suggested having a pink window net for Breast Cancer Awareness. At the time Mason’s mother Stephanie was fighting breast cancer and is now in remission.

The idea was tabled for a year after the outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic caused numerous logistical issues for NASCAR.

Before the drivers could honour Bradley’s request, NASCAR had to make a change in the rule book which stated that all window nets were to be black. The rule now states that the window nets must be black unless otherwise approved by NASCAR.

When the NASCAR Cup Series made its annual fall stop at Charlotte Motor Speedway for the road course race on The Roval, many drivers in the field sported pink window nets. After the race those window nets were put up for auction on ebay with the money going to charity.

Money from the “Windows of Hope” are going to aid families diagnosed with breast cancer.

A total of 1,377 bids were cast with Kurt Busch’s window nets receiving the most bids with 67. Kevin Harvick’s window net earned the highest bid of the auction with his window net selling for $5,100. A total of $55,884.80 was raised.
