For the second time this season, NASCAR has had to stop a race to make repairs to the track as a result of drivers crashing and destroying large rumble strips also known as “turtles”.

During the Xfinity Series race at The Roval at Charlotte Motor Speedway on October 9, Josh Bilicki chose to hit the “turtles” instead of a fellow driver after his brakes failed.  Bilicki destroyed the large yellow and black striped “turtles” causing a delay while track officials made repairs.

As a result, NASCAR has decided to remove six sets of those black and yellow “turtles” from the course prior to the Bank of America 400 Cup Series race on October 10.

The large rumble strips were implemented in 2018 to help curb excessive speeds going into the chicanes that are a part of the race course.

The black and yellow rumble strips are on the outside of the course past the smaller red and white striped curbing and blue  rumble strips or turtles.
