One indication that an album outlasts the sands of time is when it returns to the top 10 of the Billboard 200 Album chart 30 years after its original release.

Such is the case for hard rockers Metallica and their self titled album.

Last week Billboard recorded the album at number 158 on the 200 Album chart, this week the album has jumped to number nine.

The big move came after Metallica released an anniversary edition of the 1991 album. The new version of the album is available via vinyl, CD, extended three CD package, digital download, and a Deluxe Box set that includes the album on vinyl; a picture disc; three live vinyl albums; 14 CDs featuring interviews, demos mixes, and live performances; six DVDs featuring outtakes, behind the scenes videos, and live performances; plus a hardcover book, tour laminates, lithos, guitar picks, a Metallica lanyard, lyric sheets, and a download card. The Deluxe edition is a limited edition release.

Combining all versions of the album plus streaming the “Metallica” album sold 37,000 copies last week. Since the original release in 1991, the breakthrough album remains one of the top selling albums in the United States and has earned Diamond Award status for selling over 10 million copies with 17 million…and counting.
