Once a NASCAR sanctioned race has been completed, NASCAR officials inspect several of the car. Some infractions like loose or missing lug nuts garner fines for the crew chiefs; but a major infraction can result in fines, lost points, and even a disqualification.

Such was the case for the Roush Fenway Racing number 17 team after the final race of the regular season in the Cup Series on Saturday night. Officials found that the track bar mounting assembly under the car did not meet technical specifications and was therefore, illegal.

As a result, Buescher’s second place finish in the Coke Zero Sugar 400 was disqualified and Buescher is listed as the final driver in 40th place. Third place driver Bubba Wallace in the 23XI Racing number 23 is now the second place driver as all drivers will move up one spot. Team Penske driver Ryan Blaney won the race for his third win of the 2021 season.

However, the disqualification does not change any of the point standings when it comes to placing the 16 playoff drivers.
