On August 24, 2021; the Paralympic athletes opened their Olympic events. Hundreds of athletes from 162 countries marched into National Stadium in Tokyo to mark the beginning of two weeks of sporting events. Some nations have only a single athlete to represent their homeland, but they all marched with the pride only seen during Olympic events.
In the first day of competition, 22 countries earned medals with Australia leading the way with a total of 10 medals – six of them gold.
The Americans have some catching up to do with just two silver medals so far.
