Earlier this week NASCAR announced some changes to their Covid-19 porotcols and re-implementing some restrictions that were in place last year due to a surge in positive cases ans the delta variant rages on.

Spire Motorsports announced Thrusday that driver of the number seven car, Corey LaJoie would not be making the trip to Michigan this weekend or running in the race due to Covid protocols.

In their statement, Spire Motorsports did not specify whether LaJoie had tested positive for the virus or whether he had been exposed to someone who had tested positive; only that LaJoie would not be at the track or running in the race.

Sprie has tapped Xfinity Series driver Josh Berry to fill in for LaJoie. Earlier this season when Spire Motorsports driver Justin Haley had to miss a race, it was Josh Berry who took over the driving dutes of Haley’s car.

Berry has just signed a full time deal to drive the JR Motorsports number eight car in the Xfinity Series next season.
