Following in the foot steps of Broadway, The Kennedy Center, and the Ford Theatre; over 65 of the theatrical venues in Chicago will require cast, crew, and audience members to show proof that they have been vaccinated in order to attend a production.
Beginning September 1 and running through at least the end of the year, audience members will not only have to show proof of vaccination, but will have to wear a face covering as well.
The protocols will be regularly evaluated to determine whether any changes will need to be made depending on what the current science dictates.
Executive Director for the League of Chicago Theatres Deb Clapp spoke on the decision saying, “the arts and cultural community is embedded in the fabric of Chicago. Not all of the League’s more than 200 member theatres will be able to open this fall. We are pleased that many members of our vibrant performing arts community that will be opening have come together to craft a unified response to this crisis so that audiences can once again experience the joy of live performance without future disruption.”
