On day nine of the Tokyo Summer Olympics, the medal count jumped for the leaders with the People’s Republic of China holding on to the gold medal lead with 24.  But the United States racked up over a dozen new medals to retake the lead in the overall medal count with 59 – 20 gold, 23 silver, and 16 bronze.

No new countries added their names to the lismedal winners on Saturday.
