An entertainer achieves many milestones during a career. One of the signs that an entertainer has reached iconic status is when the national postal service
issues a collection of stamps in their honour.
On May 6 the Royal Mail Serivce in the United Kingdom has announced that they will be issuing a collection of 12 stamps in hounor of native son and Hall of Fame music legend Sir Paul McCartney. The Royal Mail worked with Sir Paul in creating the collection.
The collectible stamps are in celebration of Sir Paul’s career as a solo artist.
Set for a May 28 release, the set features eight of Sir Paul’s most iconic solo albums including his 1970 debut “McCartney” and his most recent album “McCartney III”. The remaining four stamps feature photos of Sir Paul in his second home – the studio.
Sir Paul is only the third music artist from the United Kingdom to have a stamp series honouring him – the others were David Bowie and Sir Elton John.
Along with his 18 Grammy Awards and seven Diamond Awards for selling at least 10 million copies of an album in the United States while with the Beatles, Sir Paul has earned numerous gold, platinum, nad multi-platinum awards with the band.
As a solo artist he has earned a spot in the Guinness Book of World Records for being the most successful songwriter of all time in the United Kingdom with 188 songs – 91 of which were top 10’s and 33 reached number one and has earned over 60 gold discs.
