The Texas Rangers recently announced the renaming of their Surprise, Arizona spring training facility to Charley Pride Field.

On March 18, the Rangers are paying further tribute to the former baseball pitcher and award winning Country music star with a fellowship in the Rangers front office.  The Charley Pride Fellowship Program will offer five college juniors and seniors from a diverse background a 10 week internship in various areas of the Rangers front office.  Each year the five interns will rotate in three areas of the front office to gain experience in their areas of interest.

Pride’s widow Rozene and fellow Country stars Garth Brooks, Larry Gatlin, and Neal McCoy joined officials from the Texas Rangers to make the announcement.  Dallas businessman Roland Parrish’s Parrish Charitable Foundation is partnering with the Rangers on the Fellowship.

Applications for the inaugural class of fellowship members is now open with the fellowship to begin in May and end in August.

Pride died December 12, 2020 at the age of 86 as a result of complications due to the Covid-19 virus.
