The NASCAR Cup Series tops off a triple header weekend with the O’Reilly Auto Parts 255 on the road course at the Daytona International Speedway.
With no qualifying runs, NASCAR has set the field using the complicated format created last season in an effort to limit the exposure to the Covid-19 virus that includes track position from the previous race, owner points, and team points.
Cup Series champion Chase Elliott sits on the pole with Daytona 500 winner Michael McDowell alongside on the front row.
Chase Elliott has won the last four Cup Series road course races and is looking to make it five in a row.

Stage one of the race is 16 laps in length, stage two is 18 laps in length, and stage three will last 36 laps for a total of 70 laps around the 3.61 mile 14 turn road course.
Chase Elliott brings the field down for the green flag start of the race and jumps out in front for the lead. Michael McDowell overshoots turn one and falls back in the field.
Drivers are getting three wide across the track and are already beating and banging on each other. Kyle Busch and Chase Briscoe have some damage to their cars.
Lap two, Chase Elliott leads the race with Austin Dillon in second; Denny Hamlin, Kevin Harvick, and Ryan Preece round out the top five.
The caution flag comes out on lap two for debris on the track – Michael McDowell’s tire carcass.
The tire on Michael McDowell’s car was down on the pace laps.
Chase Elliott brings the field down for the green flag restart on lap four and edges out Austin Dillon for the lead going into turn one.
Lap five, the top five are Chase Elliott, Denny Hamlin, Austin Dillon, Joey Logano, and Kevin Harvick. Still on the lead lap, Kyle Busch is back in 38th place with Michael McDowell also on the lead lap.
Lap six, Chase Briscoe spins out after hitting one of the turtles but the track stays green.
Lap six, Chase Elliott has pulled out to a lead of over two seconds on Denny Hamlin.
Lap eight. Chase Elliott continues to lead the race with a lead of nearly five seconds on Denny Hamlin; Joey Logano, Austin Dillon, and Kyle Larson round out the top five.
Lap nine, after the first lap incident, Kyle Busch is in 25th place with Michael McDowell in 28th.
Lap 10, Chase Elliott holds on to his near five second lead on Denny Hamlin; Joey Logano, Austin Dillon, and Kyle Larson round out the top five.
Lap eleven, Brad Keselowski comes down pit road with a flat tire.
Matt DiBenedetto has ripped the bumper off of his car bringing out the caution flag. He also had a flat tire.
Drivers come down pit road for service with Chase Elliott winning the race off of pit road. Cody Ware took fuel only; putting him in the top 10. One team had a tire get loose and run across pit road into the grass.
After staying out on the track, Christopher Bell leads the race.
William Byron’s team was the team with the runaway tire. Tyler Reddick also received a penalty for an uncontrolled tire.
With three laps remaining in stage one, Christopher Bell brings the field down for the green flag restart and hold on to the lead with Chase Elliott in second.

Some of the drivers come down pit road for service but the leaders stayed out. Ty Dilllon’s team was penalized for his crew coming over the pit wall too soon.
Chase Elliott brings the field down for the green flag start of stage two on lap 20 with Elliott going nose to nose with Joey Logano for the lead before getting out in front to hold on to the lead.
Quin Houff is out of the race; the remaining 39 cars are all on the lead lap.
Before the lap is even completed, Chase Elliott has pulled out to a lead of nearly two seconds on Denny Hamlin.
Lap 22, Chase Elliott continues to dominate the race with a lead of over a second and a half on Denny Hamlin; Joey Logano, Martin Truex Jr, and Kurt Busch round out the top five.
Lap 23, FOX Sports reports that the drivers are having issues with the rear tires; especially after about 10 laps on the tires.
Lap 24, Chase Elliott continues to lead the race; Denny Hamlin, Martin Truex Jr, Joey Logano, and AJ Allmendinger round out the top five.
Brad Keselowski missed the bus stop chicane again. Drivers who miss the chicane must come to a complete stop before continuing on in the race.
Lap 26, Martin Truex Jr gets around Denny Hamlin for second; Chase Elliott leads the race with a lead of over three seconds.
AJ Allmendinger challenges Joey Logano for fourth and takes the spot.

The caution flag comes out on lap 27 when Ross Chastain gets stopped on the track after hitting the wall. Chastain is working his way to pit road with a flat tire.
Tyler Reddick was stopped on the track, but got the car moving again and did not need the tow truck.
Most of the drivers come down pit road for service and fresh tires with Denny Hamlin willing the race off of pit road. Chase Elliott came out fifth; but five drivers also stayed out on the track. AJ Allmendinger is the new leader.
AJ Allmendinger brings the field down for the green flag restart on lap 29 and gets out in front for the lead.
The top five are AJ Allmendinger, Kevin Harvick, Kyle Larson, Denny Hamlin, and Brad Keselowski. Chase Elliott is back in 13th place after having a slow pit stop due to a right front tire issue.
Allmendinger is the first driver other than Chase Elliott to lead a lap.
Lap 30 AJ Allmendinger leads the way with Denny Hamlin in second; Kurt Busch, Kevin Harvick, and Martin Truex Jr round out the top five. Chase Elliott is in eleventh place.

Lap 47, Chase Elliott continues to lead the race with Christopher Bell is second; Martin Truex Jr, Kyle Busch, and Joey Logano round out the top five. Anthony Alfredo is the only driver on the track one lap down with two cars out of the race.
Twenty to go, Chase Elliott has a lead of over a second and a half on Christopher Bell as drivers begin making green flag pit stops.
Lap 51, Chase Elliott makes his green flag pit stop; along with Christopher Bell and Kyle Busch.
With a long road course, the drivers can make a pit stop and not lose a lap.
The winds pick up at Daytona as a quick very local rainshower and a rainbow appears over the track.
Lap 53, Chase Elliott holds on to his lead with Christopher Bell in second place; Martin Truex Jr, Kyle Busch, and Kyle Larson round out the top five.
Fifteen to go, Chase Elliott has a lead of over two seconds on Christopher Bell. The rains are coming down only in certain spots around the track. The teams do have wet weather tires if needed.
Matt DiBenedetto is out of the race with 15 laps to go. He is only the third car out of the race; joining Quin Houff and Ross Chastain.
Lap 56, NASCAR puts out the caution flag for rain. NASCAR mandates that teams have a blinking running light in the rear window, a windshield wiper, and a defogger in the cars; teams also have rain/wet weather tires in their pits.
The rain has nearly gone as pit road opens. Teams have the option of whether they want to change to wet weather tires or put on a new set of slicks. Christopher Bell wins the race off of pit road with Chase Elliott coming out in fourth place.
With some cars staying out on the track, Chase Elliott will restart the race in 15th place.
Joey Logano brings the field down for the green flag restart with just 12 laps remaining in the race.

Tyler Reddick gets in the grass and brings out the caution flag with a flaming car. Drivers were three and four wide when he got off the track.
Chase Elliott also gets off the track but gets going again. Elliott has some grass on his grille. After running up on Denny Hamlin’s rear bumper, the grass is gone.
Joey Logano brings the field down for the green flag restart with 10 laps remaining in the race; Logano jumps out in front of Chase Briscoe for the lead but there is a big melee going into turn one. The track stays green.

The caution flag comes out with 10 laps to go after Martin Truex Jr spins out and gets off the track. Corey LaJoie also had an issue with his car. Truex and LaJoie bring their cars down pit road.
