Broadway actress and soprano Rebecca Luker died December 23, 2020 as a result of complications from ALS – Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis; also known as Lou Gehrig’s Disease, in New York City at the age of 59.

After making her Broadway debut as the Princess in Phantom of the Opera, Luker went on to play the role of Christine Daae opposite Phantom Michael Crawford.  She also appeared in the Broadway productions “The Secret Garden”, “Show Boat”, “The Sound of Music”, “The Music Man”, the revival of “Nine”, “Mary Poppins”, “Rodgers + Hammerstein’s Cinderella”, and “Fun Home”.

She made her screen debut in 1997 singing in the chorus for the video “Beauty and the Beast: The Enchanted Christmas”.  Her acting debut came in 200 in the TV Movie “Cupid & Cate”.  She also appeared in “Spectropia”, “The Good Wife”, “Submissions Only”, “Not Fade Away”, “Boardwalk Empire”, “The Rewrite”, “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit”, one episode with her husband, “Elementary”, as Rose LaSalle in “NCIS: New Orleans”, and “Bull”.  As herself, Luker appeared in music shows, award shows, and documentaries.

Rebecca Joan Luker was born on April 17, 1961 in Birmingham, Alabama and later earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Montevallo University.

She is survived by her second husband and fellow actor Danny Burstein and step-sons Alex and Zach.
