Bay City Rollers’ bass player Ian Mitchell died in Los Angeles at the age of 62. While the death was confirmed on the band’s official Facebook page, not cause of death of date was given.
The band formed in Scotland in the seventies; Mitchell was just 17 when he joined the band in 1976 but remained with the Rollers less than a year. Mitchell was with the band when they had a hit with “I Only Want to Be With You” and the album “Dedication”.
Original bass player Alan Longmuir formed the band with his brother Derek in Edinburgh.
He returned to his native Northern Ireland and played with the band Rosetta Stone and later with his own band and The Passengers; as well as, a solo artist.
After leaving the music business, Mitchell became a computer programmer and motivational speaker.
He was born in Downpatrick, Northern Ireland.
He is survived by his wife of nearly 50 years, Wendy.
