The COVID-19 pandemic has brought a lot of uncertainty to the world with millions of people still out of work and many businesses still shuttered. But one thing that is for certain is that there will be plenty of dancing and drama in the Ballroom when “Dancing with the Stars” returns for a new season on September 14.
On September 2, DWTS announced the celebrity cast that will be competing this season for the mirroball trophy alongside their professional Ballroom dancing partners.
Along with a plethora of TV hosts and actors; this season’s lineup includes reality stars, sports figures, and two award winning singers.
Meet the season 29 DWTS cast:
Monica Aldama is a 14 time National Champion Cheerleading coach. She has spent the past 25 years as the head cheerleading coach at Navarro College where she was inducted to the inaugural class of the university’s athletic Hall of Fame.
Big Cat Rescue founder and CEO Carol Baskin is no stranger to television where she has appeared on numerous documentaries. An animal advocate, Baskin has spoken to groups around the world and is the host of the “Cat Chat Show”.
The most recent “Bachelorette”, Canadian born Katlyn Bristowe has taken her time on the reality dating series and parlayed it into an enterprise with her own hair accessories, wine, and digital series. An aspiring singer, she has released her first Country Pop song and she has made numerous appearances on a variety of television talk and variety shows.
Professional football player Vernon Davis. After spending 15 seasons in San Francisco and Washington, the former tight end retired at the end of the 2019/20 season. Since retiring, the budding actor has launched numerous entrepreneurial endeavors. In past DWTS seasons football players have faired very well on the show, with a few even adding the mirrorball to their trophy cases.
Actress Anne Heche is an award winning actress whose credits include “The Vanished”, “Best of Enemies”, “My Friend Dahmer”, “Wildcard”, “Catfight”, “The Last Word”, and “Opening Night”.
The season 29 teen celebrity is 18 year old Skai Jackson. This season’s youngest contestant, Jackson is a star on the Disney Channel series “Jessie” and “BUNK’D”.
Actress Justina Machado has appeared on the stage; as well as, in films and on television. Her credits include the current “One Day at a Time”, “Six Feet Under”, “Jane the Virgin”, and “Elena of Avalor”. She also performed in the Broadway production of “In the Heights”.
Jeannie Mai is an award winning talk show host on “The Real”. She also serves as a sideline reporter for “Holey Moley”. A first generation Asian-American, Mai is an advocate against human trafficking, supports women’s issues, and spends time volunteering in Asia to aid the less fortunate.
A member of one of the most popular boy bands in the modern era, AJ McLean has spent the past 27 years as a teen heart throb and member of the chart topping, award winning band the Backstreet Boys.
Award winning entertainers Jesse Metcalfe was appeared in a variety of roles from comedic to a Country music star including “desperate Housewives”, “Hard Kill”, “Chesapeake Shores”, “Escape Plan 2: Hades”, “The Ninth Passenger”, “John Tucker Must Die”, “Christmas Next Door”, and “A Country Wedding”.
Award winning artist Nelly became one of only seven rap artists to earn a Diamond Award – at least 10 million copies of a song or album sold in the United States – when he teamed up with Country music sensations Florida Georgia Line for the smash hit “Cruise”. Since breaking onto the music scene in 2000, the three time Grammy Award winner has collaborated with Florida Georgia Line, Kane Brown, Jimmie Allen, Kelly Rowland, Cash, and Digital Animal Farm.
Former NBA basketball player Charles Oakley spent 19 seasons running up and down the court cooking up some trouble for the opposing team. In the 10 years he spent with the New York Knicks, the team made it to the playoffs every season. When he is not coaching in the Big3 League, Oakley loves to cook and has served thousands of his meals to the needy.
Producer, photographer, and TV host Nev Schulman is best known for his docu-film “Catfish” and the subsequent television series. Currently, he hosts the Facebook series “We Need to Talk” along with his wife Laura.
High end realtor Chrishell Stause stars in the Netflix docu-series “Selling Sunset”. She has also made guest appearances in three of the four remaining daytime dramas on network television – “All My Children”, “The Young and the Restless”, and “Days of Our Lives”. She is also an advocate for the homeless, especially families with children.
Champion ice skater Johnny Weir rounds out this season’s competitors. The three time Olympian also serves as a commentator for ice skating events during the Winter Olympic Games.
While fans will have to wait until the September 14 premiere to learn who will be paired with who; the celebrities will be joining already announced professional dancers
and Britt Stewart
as the cast of season 29 on “Dancing with the Stars”.
Judges Len Goodman, Bruno Tonioli, and Carrie Ann Inaba will return to the Ballroom, but the show will see a new host when Tyra Banks takes over the duties formally held by Tom Bergeron and Erin Andrews.
