‘Black Panther’ Actor Chadwick Boseman Dies

Versatile actor Chadwick Boseman died August 28, 2020 as a result of cancer in his Los Angeles home.   Boseman was surrounded by family at the time of his death.  Boseman was 43.

Boseman was diagnosed with colon cancer four years ago but he never publicly spoke on the diagnosis and continued to work between treatments.

While he only appeared in around three dozen productions; his roles included the iconic Jackie Robinson, James Brown, Justice Thurgood Marshall, and Marvel Comics’ Black Panther.

Boseman made his television debut in 1970 on the daytime drama “All My Children”.  He also appeared in “Third Watch”, “Law & Order”, the shorts “Date”,  “Lady Like”, and “The Appointment”, “CSI:NY”, “The Express”, “ER”, “Cold Case”, “Lie to Me”, “Lincoln Heights”, “Persons Unknown”, “The Glades”, “Castle”, “Detroit 1-8-7”, “Justified”, “Fringe”, and “The Kill Hole” before getting his big break as baseball player Jackie Robinson in “42”. 

He also appeared in “Draft Day”, “Get on Up”, the short “9 Kisses”, “God of Egypt”, “Captain America: Civil War”, “Message from the King”, “Marshall”, “Black Panther”, “Avengers: Infinity War”, “Avengers: Endgame”, “21 Bridges”, and “Da 5 Bloods”.

He had completed “Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom” before his death.  “Yasuke” is currently in pre-production and a “Black Panther” sequel was being planned.

Boseman was more than just an actor, he also served as a producer on a number of films including “Message from the King”, “Marshall”, and “21 Bridges”.  He was also listed as a producer for “Yasuke”.

Chadwick Aaron Boseman was born on November 29, 2976 in Anderson, South Carolina and later graduated from Howard University in Washington, DC where he first got interested in acting and the theater.  He is also a graduate of the British American Dramatic Academy in Oxford, England.

He is survived by his wife Taylor Simone.  The couple had no children.
